We visited Denali National Park at the end of February. Many areas are closed during winter, but the drive alone is absolutely worth it. The snow-covered landscape is peaceful, dramatic, and feels truly wild.
During winter, the park uses the Murie Science & Learning Center as the visitor center. Nearby, there’s an indoor picnic area with a microwave and electric kettle, which was very convenient. You can also sit inside, warm up, and watch an Alaska-themed film, a nice break from the extreme cold.
What made our visit especially memorable was one of the staff members working outside in the freezing temperatures. Despite the harsh conditions, she was incredibly friendly and helpful. Her warmth and kindness truly brightened our winter trip and made us feel genuinely welcome.
Even though winter access is limited, the experience felt special, quiet, and unique. If you’re prepared for the cold, it’s a beautiful time to visit.
