What Guests Are Saying
The Russian River Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained environment, with spacious sites and helpful staff, making it a favorite destination for many visitors. Guests appreciate the scenic hiking opportunities, including a popular trail to the falls, and the campground's proximity to fishing spots. However, challenges with the reservation system, road conditions, and maintenance issues, such as the dump station being frequently closed, have led to some frustration among campers.

The Russian river has endured many changes over the years. The beetle kill has caused the campground to be thinned out significantly. The road into the campground has been under construction for two years and will be a huge improvement. The worst part of the Russian River is the reservation system. It’s almost impossible to get a campsite. This really needs to be looked at to ensure it’s fair for all. Also, take a look at the number of empty camp spots during high peak times. Please fix the reservation system! Sincerely.

When we arrived to the gate on June 1, the first day the campground was supposed to be open. It was unmanned and signs were posted that the campground was closed, that there was no trash service, and that the dump station was unavailable. Mind you, we had reservations that were made months in advance. There were many other RVers who were visibly upset as were we. We made numerous phone calls to the Seward Ranger District and other forest service numbers, but it was a Saturday, so they went unanswered. We saw most campers drive away. We decided to drive up to the campground as the gate was open. We went to our reserved site and enjoyed a nice quiet weekend. Only one or two other campers took a chance like us. However, the pit toilets had not been pumped and were over full. The bathrooms were disgusting and the campground had not even been open since last season. I finally got a call a few days later from Seward Ranger District. He said he thought the campground was open - it should have been, he said - but someone must have forgotten to take the closed signs down. I said there were many upset people who could have possibly come from a long way off who drove away without a campsite. He didn’t seem too concerned and said he’d check into it. The whole experience was uncalled for and almost ruined our trip. All because someone forgot to take down the closed signs. Also I don’t understand why the toilets hadn’t been pumped and the bathrooms cleaned. Unacceptable to say the least!!!

I would otherwise give a 5- star rating, but the salmon fishing was poor, but that's the way it goes some years.
Here's something that really concerns me about the reservation system with this campground, as a person who lives in the area and has come here nearly every year for the past 30 years: it is now very difficult to secure a campsite for the popular salmon fishing seasons on the Rec.gov website, six months in advance. The site get reserved within seconds of becoming available. And yet when the campground is open for the desirable fishing dates nearly 20% of the sites are vacant! The person who has the reservation doesn't show up!

Went before the crowds came and enjoyed a quiet experience along the boardwalk. Usually camp during high season, so this was even more peaceful.
