About Russian River

Beginning Aug. 15, 2025, the Russian River Campground will be closed to the Public for construction.Construction crews will rebuild and widen one mile of the access road, making it more stable and resistant to frost heaves. During the closure, all vehicle and pedestrian access will be restricted and campground reservations on Recreation.gov will be unavailable.  Russian River Campground is perched between the Russian and Kenai Rivers in south-central Alaska. Summary

AI generated

Russian River Campground is highly regarded for its spacious, clean campsites, friendly staff, and beautiful surroundings, making it a favorite spot for many visitors, including long-time campers. Improvements such as a new entrance road and well-maintained facilities enhance the overall experience. However, issues with reservation policies lead to frustration, as many booked sites remain unoccupied, preventing others from enjoying the campground.

December 19, 2019 Stayed at: 074, Loop: RUSS

We had a great stay here, it is primitive but offers a lot of access to the river, trails and fishing. We booked a river fishing tour with 5Dogs Fishing on the Kenai River and it was a awesome experience. We ate at Gwen's Lodge, very good but, like everything in Alaska food is pricey. We ate at our camp, packed plenty of non perishables since the camp had bear resistant containers.

I was unable to use the two nights reserved because of the intense forest fire smoke.
