About Appleton Cove Cabin

Appleton Cove Cabin was built in 1992 by Forest Service administrative crews for field housing during a period of logging. When logging was complete, the cabin became available for recreation. The cabin is open year-round and makes an excellent base for visitors looking to enjoy saltwater fishing, hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing and hunting in this beautiful corner of Alaska. The cabin is located 30 miles north of Sitka, Alaska on Baranof Island, and can be accessed by float plane or boat, weather permitting. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.

It started with nice weather! Boated from Sitka and we saw whales, deer and a bear. Cabin was clean and well maintained. Spent two nights and overall enjoyed a very nice outing!

This was our 4th visit to the cabin in several years time. Cabin was in great shape. We enjoyed the oil stove on a wet day in June. We used the mooring buoy and took our skiff to the beach. There isn't much walkable beach at the cabin sight but traveling to nearby beaches provides walking opportunities. Will be back!

It was a nice cabin, however it was a little run down with quite a bit of trash around the cabin

We were unable to stay at the cabin due to the cove being completely iced in.

Great little cabin. Found some crab right out in the cove. We found some king salmon halibut and lingcod right out at the mouth of the bay. Heats right up. Barely used any oil.

Really neat location with nice volcanic rock and grass beaches to walk. Cabin is a panabode style construction, dry and warm. Stove heats up quickly and consumes ~2 gallons of diesel/day in inclement January Alaskan weather, actually not too bad. Lots of hunting and shellfishing opportunities nearby, will definitely be returning.
