About Starrigavan Creek Cabin

Starrigavan Creek Cabin is a drive-up, high-use, seasonally accessible log cabin within the Starrigavan Recreation Area. The cabin was constructed in 2008 from young Sitka spruce trees harvested around Starrigavan Creek to improve wildlife and fish habitat. The cabin is an experiment in the longevity of young spruce logs for construction purposes, making it the first young-growth cabin and also the first cabin within a recreation area in the Tongass National Forest. Access to Sitka is only by ferry or airplane. The cabin is a two-minute drive from the Alaska Marine Highway Sitka Ferry Terminal or a 7-mile drive from downtown Sitka or the airport. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring some of their own amenities.

So awesome, really cool cabin. Make sure to pack lots of firewood though, we went in winter and it was cold (duh).

Excellent drive-in cabin. Very new and clean and even though it’s in the middle of a campground is situated in such a way that you feel isolated. The camp host was really great and welcoming.

Wonderful and comfortable cabin: Plenty of room inside for cooking in the "counter top" and playing card games on the spacious table.

Outside is awesome, ut note, the fire pit is not covered so bring a tarp if you need.

Having morning coffee while listening to the dozens of different birds is truly inspiring.

I always enjoy time out at the Starrigavan Cabin. The access to it is so easy and early in the season, it feels like you are far away from civilization. April is usually the month we choose to celebrate our son's birthday @ the cabin, but the weather is erratic, sometimes with snow. However, bears are not usually a concern.
We lucked out for this trip and had minimal rain. In the past we have had to hang a tarp to stay dry if we wanted to be outside. I think bringing your own chairs is more comfortable that the wet benches and cold rock to sit on by the fire but having a picnic table is very handy. If you are inside, a lantern of some sort is very helpful. We also usually park one car on the other side of the boardwalk just to be safe since we are locked in by the gate in the evening.
The host was very accommodating. The cabin was clean & being able to purchase wood on site saves us a lot of effort. It is a bummer that the artesian well is shut down.
You really can't go wrong with this cabin, it is cozy an in a gorgeous, easy setting!

This cabin is perfect size and quiet. The wood they have was wet so the fire never warmed up the cabin. You might want to bring in dry wood or a heater The snow was on the ground so the gates were closed and we had to walk in. Plan for this in the winter.. The person helping us was nice and accommodating.

The cabin was clean. We disinfectant before hand. Trying to unplug, would have liked the host to allow people to digress, unplug, and unwind from the world. Bring may mosquito repellant. Outhouse was really dirty compared to many U.S camping sites.

Camp hosts were amazing. We forgot pillows and they provided us with some. Also the wood for the wood stove was already in the cabin and dry.

The hosts were very kind. The cabin looked great. We stayed warm and dry. We always have a great time out at Starrigavan! We usually go out there for my son's birthday in April. We had rain this time but sometimes we have woken up to snow. It is so convenient to have water from the artesian well and it is just so nice to be able to pop back into town if you need anything.

The new hosts are extremely nice! plan on bringing as much dry wood as you can, the wood available to buy isn't seasoned and you'll have a hard time with the wood stove if you dont have dry to get it started.
