About Shakes Slough 2 Cabin

Shakes Slough 2 Cabin makes an excellent basecamp for exploring the Stikine River. It is located at the confluence of the Stikine River and Shakes Slough and within a few hundred feet of neighboring Shakes Slough 1 Cabin. These cabins offer spectacular views of the surrounding Stikine-LeConte Wilderness. The site can be accessed by float plane or shallow draft boat, depending on conditions. A tide of at least 14 feet is required to navigate the Stikine River tide flats. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.

Arrived by canoe just as a heavy rain event started. Watched river rising overnight and pulled the boats further up the beach twice and tied-on. Cabin warm and dry despite the soaking outside. Stikine rose 4 feet according the nearest gauge. Great place for a weather day on-shore.

This is a great cabin that has more than enough room for 5-6 people. There was fuel on site and it seemed like the stove was very efficient. You'll need to bring some wood in if you want to have a campfire. Nice spot to beach the skiff right in front of the cabin.

The outhouse was clean, also a porquipine kept trying to climb in.

Bring bug spray/repelent, its southeast AK after all but these little misquitoes were SWARMING us.

Theres a short trail leading to the surrounding cabins so you could go out with a large group and rent multiple cabins.

The Tubs are only 15 minute skiff ride away! (bring more bug repelent)

I stayed in this cabin on two separate occasions, 13 years apart. Both were excellent remote, wilderness experiences. Hunting, exploring, wildlife viewing opportunities are endless and prove very successful. I hope to enjoy this cabin again!
