Alamo Canyon Primitive Campground is a beautiful and secluded site with only four campsites, offering a peaceful atmosphere perfect for stargazing and hiking. The campground is well-maintained, featuring clean vault toilets and picnic tables, though it lacks shade. Visitors appreciate the stunning scenery, unique experience, and the quiet solitude compared to larger campgrounds.

Beautiful setting and views. Be prepared. No water, no cell service. Only the quiet of the desert.

Beware o traveler, the intersection of Alamo wash rd with the N/S highway is dangerous. No signage alerts drivers driving north or south past the alamo wash intersection. Traffic is often speeding. Leaving from Alamo wash rd the view is partially obstructed from oncoming traffic.

Beautiful location. Three mile dirt road to the campground is easily doable by any vehicle. Hikers visit during the day to do the Alamo Canyon Trail, but are gone by late afternoon. Ajo Mountain Drive is fabulous. I did the Bull Pasture trail to the junction with the viewpoint, and then continued on the unmaintained trail to Mount AJo. It is marked by cairns but requires some backtracking anyway to stay on the path. The central section climbing up to the summit ridge is steep and loose. Harder coming down. I used GaiaGPS for navigation. Seven hours 10 minutes round trip, with 2.5 liters water consumed. Unequaled view in the park.
