Don’t let the 3 miles of unpaved road scare you away! We did it on Harley’s. The road was not that bad, a little bit of washboards. The pit toilets were nice and clean. Campsites had picnic tables and a grill, were well kept. We took the the 1.8 mile hike to the old homestead and corral. Beautiful morning hike! I would highly recommend this camp spot!

Camping always good there. Unfortunately I arrived there at 3pm, April 15th, to my reserved camp site and someone parked their truck there. We could not back in to our site and we waited hours for this person to show up. When they finally showed up they played ignorant to the rules and was hoping they could just stay. Then they tried to take over another reserved camp spot. Then they tried to offer another camper $100 to share their camping spot. Myself and another camper teamed up to monitor the situation and work to remove this individual from the Alamo Camp area. This person was not interested in traveling to visitor center to find another camp location. Eventually he left. The Park Service needs to placed “reserved” at sites that are reserved so a paying customer doesn’t have to deal with a belligerent squatter! It’s a long drive to Organ Pipe!

One of the most magical places at sunrise and sunset. We had the canyon to ourselves with all the desert wildlife. Absolutely pristine and gorgeous.

Had a great time camping & spending a couple nights to soak it in. Weather was comfortable with amazing sunsets & great day hikes with photo opportunities everywhere you look.

Alamo campground is truly spectacular. We got lucky with nice quiet neighbors. The hike near the campground is amazing. The sky is gorgeous. It was pretty when we were there in early April but thankfully brought really warm clothes.

There is no road sign along the highway for the Alamo Canyon Road
- Alamo Canyon Road is located at milepost 65.5 on the east side of AZ State Route 85, on the north side of the concrete bridge that crosses Alamo Wash. Alamo Canyon Campground is located at the end of the Alamo Canyon Road. The road is a three-mile graded dirt road suitable for most cars.
- From the North (Phoenix): take I-10 East to AZ SR 85 south. Or, take I-10 east to AZ SR 347 south, to AZ 238 west, to AZ SR 85 south.
- From the East (Tucson): take AZ SR 86 to Why, then turn left on AZ SR 85, heading south.
- From the West (Yuma/California): follow I-8 to Gila Bend or I-10 to Buckeye, to AZ SR 85 south.
- From the South (Sonoyta, Mexico): travel north towards Lukeville, AZ on Mexico Rt. 2. Once across the border into the United States, continue north onto AZ SR 85.
Alamo Canyon Primitive Campground is accessible via AZ State Route 85, which is located approximately 3 miles from the campground at milepost 65.5. Major access roads include I-10 and I-8, which connect to AZ SR 85 for travelers from various directions.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
