Very primitive and beautiful. Quiet, off the beaten path. Large sites, with great views of the sky, stars, moon. The owner met us when pulling in, very friendly and helpful. I recommend A Spark in the Dark totally.

Absolute gem of a campground. Beautiful sky view, perfect for stargazing. Camp spots are well spaced out and, even with quite a few campers, it never felt crowded or noisy. A special shout out needs to go to Clifford, who is a fantastic host. Just the right level of chill. Friendly and welcoming while not at all being intrusive. If you have even a passing interest in camping, you owe it to yourself to check this place out. We will definitely be back.

A great spot with wonderful sky views and an excellent laid back host. If you are looking to get away from the city or tourist bustle and just enjoy the beauty, this is a place to consider. If you’re tent camping like we were, the sites are spread out to allow individual privacy but also easy to navigate, even in the dark. Also dog friendly, which was a must as we were road tripping with the dogs at the time.
100% will return for another stay when we find ourselves in the area again.

We visited Spark last weekend and had a fantastic and relaxing couple days and nights.

We were surprised how straightforward it was to find and reach the campground in a medium-clearance vehicle. Not a bad trek at all.

Clifford, the proprietor, is a living LEGEND, and does an amazing job keeping the place looking great, the wood pile stocked, and the Porta-John clean. (Forgot to sign the guest book. Next time!)

Wide open views, fresh air, dark skies, and plenty of options to set up camp however you'd like.

Recommended to anyone looking to camp comfortably in the high desert, or just snooze a night or two on a route 66 road trip.

Truly the best host we have yet to come across. Clifford is the most laid back, kind, and friendly soul. He truly makes you feel welcome and whether you stay one night or long term (we stayed 3 months), your presence is always enjoyed. It is dry camping but Clifford offers a clean and enjoyable port-a-potty on site, a little store called “The Moon Light Market” which offers your necessities, a pleasant hiking trail, a meditation spot along with some horseshoe playing. His place truly offers you a safe and pleasurable experience that you will no doubt love. Thank you Clifford for our experience. You have made lifelong friends in us.
