About Bonito Campground (AZ)

Bonito Campground is located 18 mi northeast of Flagstaff, near Sunset Crater/Wupatki National Monument. Elevation is 6.9 ft. Bonito Campground is named for the Bonito Lava Flow which oozed across this high desert plain some 900 years ago. That river of liquid rock, now frozen forever, is just one of the many remnants of volcanic activity which lend an otherwordly appearance to this starkly beautiful place.

This campground is almost perfect! The campsites are roomy and spacious. The volcanic surface of the ground is really clean and makes it easy to have a neat campsite without the dust so prevalent many places. Access to the Sunset Crater Visitor's Center is very convenient. We loved day trips to the nearby Crater and Wupatki Monuments. The camp host were very gracious and helpful. If there were showers, it would be a perfect campground!

This campground is almost perfect! The campsites are roomy and spacious. This is a great campsite, I stayed at 33 and had plenty of room. There’s running water, plumbing, and ice & firewood for sale on site. The camp host Liz & her husband are tremendous as well. Would stay again
