What Guests Are Saying
Shouse Ford offers a beautiful and peaceful camping experience with friendly rangers and clean facilities, making it a favorite destination for many visitors. While some campers noted issues such as lack of cell service, maintenance concerns, and the condition of tent pads, the overall ambiance and spaciousness of the campground contributed to enjoyable stays. Recommendations for improvements include adding water hookups at campsites and enhancing ground maintenance, but many still plan to return for future visits.

I have been coming to this campground since I was 14. I love this campground BUT it has fallen into disrepair from neglect. Several of the concrete tables are cracked and broken. My table on site 53 was so cracked that the rebar was showing.
The grounds themselves need attention..mowing, weed eating around the bank, a controlled burn during off season to get rid of years of pine straw on the ground.
Also let’s address the shower situation. The showers don’t drain properly. They need ventilation especially in the summer. There used to be fans in the ceiling but they were replaced by skylights. The showers are suffocatingly hot in the summer.
Also we used to see the rangers and camp host ensuring rules were followed and even just talking to campers but not anymore.

I still cannot believe they still have not put sand down at the swimming area. I spent all my childhood summers on Lake DeGray, really starting to rethink where I want my grandbabies summer memories to be. The swimming area has just went way down at Shouse Ford / Point Cedar. It has been over 15 years since they have put down sand. It is just sad. Little ones can't even build sand castles. Just rocks and sticks and lose dogs running around.

the 30 amp service kept tripping and turning off power in rv. I had a 50 amp adapter, swithced to the 50 amp breaker and no more problems. And no, the problem in not in the rv. I have a 30 amp service at home specificially for my rv and never has had that breaker to trip.

The only thing they could improve is to fix the tent pads. Our children and grandchildren would come more if the pads were not so bad. I have contacted Bruce Westerman our Congressman to see what can be done. We glamp now but when we were younger tents were all we could afford. I think more young people could camp if the pads were redone. Really a cheap fix!!!!! I plan to work with Bruce to try to get this accomplished.

Beautiful site and we got to see the eclipse with no problems. The weather got quite nasty that evening but not before we were able to view the total eclipse. Nice campgrounds!

Super quiet campground surrounded by a peaceful lake. The sites were very large, particularly those sites not directly adjacent to water. Lots of fish carcasses strewn about, so if that's an issue for you or any pets be aware. Very little cell service.

Easy to find, easy to check in. Sites and restrooms are clean and stocked with paper. Be sure to bring your own hand soap as there isn't any stocked in restrooms. Tent pads are nice and smooth.
We had a great experience. Lake is great for swimming and fishing.
