Indian Lakes Resort

The family and I went here early July 2026 and had a fun time. The staff at the check-in were friendly and the overall feel of the area was clean and relaxed. The only complaint I have, which is not the resorts fault, is the water level was so low that a lot of the activities were on dry or low water so you could not use them. Example would be all the slides are on dry ground or too shallow. The diving boards had just about the minium depth. Hope for lots of rain! We will be going back.

My family and I visited Indian Lake for a party and paid admission for five people. I am pregnant with twins, had my 2-year-old with me, and was accompanied by my trained medical alert service dog.

When we arrived at the public swimming area, staff told me that my service dog was not allowed there and that if I wanted my service dog in the water, I would need to swim in the area near the campsites where people fish. We calmly explained multiple times that she is a service animal, not a pet, and that service animals are protected under the ADA.

A service dog is medical equipment prescribed to mitigate a disability. Telling a person they cannot use a public swimming area because they rely on a service dog is comparable to telling someone who uses a wheelchair, cane, or other disability-related equipment that they must use a separate area instead. The ADA does not allow people with disabilities to be excluded from public areas or directed to a different location solely because they use a service animal.

The alternative area suggested to us was not safe for swimming, especially while pregnant with twins and supervising a 2-year-old, as there were fishing hooks, lines, and other fishing equipment nearby. Because we did not feel safe using that area and were not allowed to remain in the designated swimming area with my service dog, we left within minutes of arriving despite having paid admission for five people.

Indian Lake advertises itself as pet friendly and allows pets in the lake, yet we were denied access to the public swimming area because I use a service animal. I hope management reviews ADA requirements regarding service animals so future visitors with disabilities do not have a similar experience.

I would like to add with screenshots the only policy I could find regarding dogs on their entire website or anywhere else I looked. Settings of the only rule they have for dogs keeping in mind that this does not apply to service animals as they are medical equipment is that they must be leashed and not barking excessively or left unattended. Service dogs do not have to be leashed if it interferes with their job and their ability to perform the job. The only other policy I could find that is relevant to this case is that their own rules say that you are not to swim in the fishing areas. So not only were they breaking Ada they were also breaking their own rules by telling me to go and swim in a fishing area.

I wasn’t going to post about this because I’ve been torn between believing this business simply misunderstood the law or whether they genuinely didn’t care. However, after what happened today, I feel it’s important to share.

I discovered Indian Lakes last summer and have visited several times since then. I’ve brought friends and family because we genuinely enjoyed the lake and campground. I loved the pet-friendly atmosphere, and the kids especially enjoyed the piers, slides, and everything the lake has to offer.

Unfortunately, yesterday completely changed my perspective.

I invited my son and a group of his friends to celebrate his friend’s birthday at the lake. We arrived, set up without any issues, and started enjoying the day. Once we entered the water, I noticed a golf cart drive by. A gentleman parked and walked toward the edge of the lake. He was trying to get our attention by yelling across the water, so I walked over because I’m hard of hearing and suggested we speak closer.

He informed me that my sister’s service dog was not allowed in that area.

I tried to respectfully explain the situation, even though I felt intimidated. While he never raised his voice, he used his position of authority to make it clear that ONLY pets were allowed in the camping and fishing areas, and that the service dog would have to leave the swimming area.

My sister is pregnant, has a two-year-old child, and relies on her service dog because of her disability. We were essentially told that if she wanted to use her medical equipment, she would have to separate herself from the rest of our family and swim in an area where people commonly fish and where fishing hooks, broken glass, beer bottles, and other debris can often be found.

That didn’t feel like a reasonable or safe accommodation.

This wasn’t about bringing a pet somewhere it wasn’t allowed. A service dog is medically necessary equipment that enables a person with a disability to safely participate in everyday life. Telling a disabled guest they cannot be with everyone else unless they leave behind their service dog—or isolate themselves in a different area—isn’t treating them equally.

I’m sharing this because I sincerely hope this was the result of a misunderstanding of the laws surrounding service animals rather than intentional discrimination. If that’s the case, I hope the owners take the opportunity to educate their staff so that no other family has to experience what ours did.

We truly enjoyed this place and wanted to continue supporting it. That’s what makes this experience so disappointing.

Was a good place for a first time family camping experience. The receding water isn’t in their control, we’re under a drought. But that being said, the staff were excellent, the ladies who brings trash bags and cleans the bathrooms did a great job. I will mention the spiders in the bathroom, could use a little bug spray once in a while. The toilets have no room for your legs so you have to sit sideways. We did also have a couple complaints about the noise levels, rules state no loud music, but people still blasted music consistently during the day. We’ve had a few people drive by with their doors and windows open blasting their music as well, wasn’t the camps fault itself, just some inconsiderate guests. Loved seeing the beavers, turtles, and other life ! The lake was lovely for a swim, bountiful fish to catch and let go again. Only down a star because of the broken docks. Very dangerous to walk on and if you have kids. I wouldn’t let them near them, could fall through at any moment. Hope they fix this soon!

What a great camping spot! I really enjoyed each campsite has their own lil dock into the water. There’s also a general store conveniently on the property with firewood and ice. The folks here are so friendly and very helpful.

I got the campsite with electricity and the panel had pretty much every type of plug in you could imagine - wall outlet, RV hookup etc.

I also loved that each site had a charcoal grill as well as a fire pit.

They are also very generous with their check in and check out policy which made this super convenient.
