About Choctaw

Choctaw Park is located on the spacious Greers Ferry Lake nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. In the 19th century, a city named Higden flourished where the lake now rests. The city suffered from frequent flooding and as a result a man-made lake was created for flood control of the area. Today, the city's remains sit below the lake, enticing scuba divers and archeologists alike.

Choctaw is highly praised for its welcoming atmosphere, with staff like Jeannie making visitors feel at home. The campground is noted for being clean, family-friendly, and well-maintained, with convenient amenities such as Ferguson's Marina nearby. While there are some concerns regarding restroom cleanliness, high grass, and the need for more campsite upgrades, many guests express their intention to return for future visits.

Stayed over Christmas holiday period. Very quiet with only 3 or 4 campers staying. This is a nice park. Plenty and space for walking around. Distance travelers there is a good laundromat up by 65. Walmart just down the road. Why more people don’t visit the area this time of year is beyond me. Several COE parks on Lake Greer.

This park is one of the most beautiful and well maintained parks we’ve camped. We gladly make the drive from Texas to camp at this park. The only thing that would make this park better is water hookups at the individual sites.
