The grass on our site was very tall. Specifically around the grill area. Some pieces were over a foot tall which was not ideal for grilling. Some sort of soap dispenser in the bathrooms would be nice.

The grass was very high. The women’s shower, 3rd stall, didn’t work. There was very little to no water. We had 7 campsites in our group. Definitely need to get more trash cans.

Our sight had little to no shade in the afternoon heat, the camp host Jerry is very nice, clean bathrooms.

This campground has gone down a lot since the last time we were here. (Maybe 5 years ago. 🤦🏻♀️ )

There were no showers at the smaller Cowhide campground, near site 50. All the grass in the campground was very overgrown at all the sites - like 18" high. There was no soap in the men's bathrooms.

Pros: The shower house and comfort station was air conditioned, which was a pleasant surprise. My granddaughters loved the playground. The swimming area was nice and big with lots of room for everyone including their floats/rafts. Good view of the lake with plenty of trees for shade. Cons: The individual campsites are a bit too close together in my opinion, we felt like our neighbors were "on top of us". The entire campground needed mowing. 😒 We had to wade thick, knee-high grass to get to everything (swim area, comfort station, playground), which was really hard on my little 3 year old granddaughter. The grass came up to our knees, so you can imagine how high it was to her. We had to carry her in some places. Needless to say, late evening trips through the tall grass was kind of scary--hoping not to encounter snakes or other creepy crawleys.

Getting There
From Hot Springs, Arkansas, take Highway 70 west for 41 mi to Kirby. Continue onto Route 27 south for 5 mi to Cowhide Cove Access Road. Turn right on the access road and drive 2 mi to the campground.
Highway access
Cowhide Cove is accessible via Highway 70 and Route 27. Highway 70 is the primary route from Hot Springs, approximately 41 miles to Kirby, where you can connect to Route 27 south for an additional 5 miles to the campground.

- A reservation confirmation number is required before setting up your campsite. Transactions must be made through recreation.gov or by phone.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Cancellation policy
- Arrivals more than 24 hours late must call to avoid a cancellation and fees.
Utilities
- Dumping gray water is not allowed; use the designated dump station.
Safety & rules
- Dispose of trash daily in designated receptacles; do not use fire rings or hang trash inappropriately.
- Maintain a clean site during your stay and clean up before leaving.
Pets
- Pets must be restrained, not left unattended, and waste must be disposed of; pets are not allowed in certain areas.
Site capacity
- Maximum stay of 14 days during peak season, with no extensions allowed.
