Quiet, always well groomed campground. Enjoy the breeze coming off of the water as we watch the barges travel up and down the river. Police and park ranger patrol the area on a consistent basis. Park host are polite and very helpful.

Beautiful site right on the River. River has locks and dams so you will see barges being transported on River. Locks are smaller so boats will have less barges than you will see on Mississippi River, but still fun to see. Heavy rains while we were there but river was controlled by the dams. River was flowing quickly so no swimming.

Tar Camp is a great short drive from home. It’s a beautiful place to relax along the Arkansas River and watch the barges come through. There’s a new restroom/bath house. Something new I found out last trip is that one of the bathhouses is a storm shelter.

It’s an amazing place and lots of fun the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the bathhouse and really nasty and never got cleaned when we were there
