What Guests Are Saying

Prairie Creek Campground offers a beautiful, shaded environment with clean facilities and easy access to the lake, making it a popular choice for families and outdoor enthusiasts. While some sites are uneven and require leveling, many visitors appreciate the peaceful atmosphere, friendly staff, and well-maintained picnic areas. However, there have been concerns about safety, drainage issues in shower houses, and a few inconsistent amenities that could benefit from improvement.

I had reserved a spot that once we arrived was way too small. The park host was excellent and got us moved to a very nice spot that fit our rig. The neighbors were camp attendants and they were great too Beautiful campground that’s clean and close to downtown. Lake was beautiful too.

Loved the camp ground overall, it was our first time there. Swimming area was nice. Playground was fantastic & updated!
However they need to potentially upgrade the pads. We were in lot 56 & it was very narrow with a good drop off on one side. Took lots of leveling. Also a very large hole that's a huge step & break your ankle hazard!

Came out for a week to celebrate a birthday.
We had a great time until an older gentleman that works there told us not to be coming out to the camp sights expecting people to help us or to be asking other guest for help. Which was confusing because we never asked anyone for help. Two older women who live in a camper there came down to us asking if we’d like extra blankets and have our kids snacks. Simply thought they was being kind old ladies.
We also did not notice we only booked the camp sight for 5 days when we meant to booked till the 27th that was our mistake. As we was trying to rebook the same sight someone already booked it the old ladies was nice enough to hold some of our belongings so would didn’t have to pack everything up just to come right back OKout.

Anyways after we re booked and came back to the office to get our new paper tag. The older gentleman starts saying he is a Christian man but that we couldn’t be out there expecting people to help us and wish us good luck.
He drove a grey van older skinny man. Our family was enjoying ourselfs until this incident. It was very confusing to us it seemed he was under the impression that we was in need of help and was bothering people who was trying to enjoy their time as well.
This made the rest of our stay very uncomfortable for us.

The site wasn’t mowed and it had so many walnuts and walnut shells that you couldn’t hardly walk around it. I blew it off with a blower but still had trouble walking around it. The sites used to be kept clean, mowed and upkeep on them. Almost every site we stay in has got dangerous edges on the parking pads and very few are wide enough for the newer trailers. But we keep going out there because we like Prairie Creek and Horseshoe Bend.

Pick your site very very carefully as many sites are very tight! Even if the site is long enough for your camper, it may be very difficult to back into! Not a park for big rigs!

My family and I traveled several hours from home to return my husband’s Army gear as he was getting out of the military. We decided to make a family trip out of it and booked a campsite online. Unfortunately, our experience was nothing like what was advertised. The pictures online made the campground look beautiful and seemed perfect for our family of six. We specifically wanted to camp near the water, fish, swim, and enjoy the outdoors. We explained these needs to the person working that weekend. We were told the loop where our site was located was empty, the parking had recently been redone, and that we would really enjoy the location. Unfortunately, we did not. Our campsite was on a steep hill, making it difficult and unsafe to enter and exit our tent. We were sliding while getting in and out and rolling into the sides of the tent throughout the night. The “recently redone” parking area was also on a steep incline. Our vehicle spun its tires trying to get up and then began sliding backward on the second attempt. We ultimately had to park on the loop because we did not feel it was safe to continue. Even worse, we discovered after setting up that the water was closed to everything except boats. There was no swimming or fishing from the shore or docks. These were two of the main reasons we chose the location. That night, boaters were partying until around 3 a.m., with loud music and flashing lights shining into the camping area. Staff were only available for a few hours each day, so we decided to wait until morning. What was most frustrating was that there were plenty of open campsites. After explaining our family’s needs, we feel we should have been directed to a safer site that actually fit what we were looking for. Instead, we packed up, forfeited the rest of our stay, and moved to another campground. We had a five-star experience there and will definitely return.

We had site 039. It was pretty level and well laid out. The covered picnic table was great. The vicinity to the shower house was the best part. Shower house was clean and sufficient. Pro tip: take a battery powered fan with you when you go to shower (no power outlets). There is NO air moving in the shower house and it gets HOT! Site 039 backs up to the road but that wasn’t terrible. We saw multiple deer wandering around and an armadillo early one morning right next to the site. I will choose this site if I make a return trip.

Hard to get into site pad. If would have came in from the other way it would have been easier. But we followed directions to the site.
