We made a reservation for a walk-in site, but since it was midweek, we were able to move to site 5 in first-come, first- served Loop A. This area is much prettier and the sites are terraced so you feel a little more privacy. None of the sites are very far from the bathrooms. We did find a couple of ticks, so be sure & watch for them.
The sites on the opposite side of Loop A overlook the river, so would be very nice but they were mostly full even on a Wednesday. We opted for the less crowded area. Even that area filled up by the weekend, but there wasn’t a lot of noise after 8:00 or 9:00 pm on Friday night.
Since this is a dark sky park, I was surprised that people had bright lights on all night, but I didn’t notice them from my tent. Just when I got up during the night.
We really liked the campground & would definitely return. The bathrooms could be a little bigger, and they are not heated or even insulated from the cold, but there are showers which are hard to find in Arkansas campgrounds!
This is a beautiful area and there are many great hiking trails along the Buffalo River. The Indian rock house trail is right by the information center and a very nice hike.

Great location. Easy back-in and get-out with a 38' RV. Some sites are better than others like any other woods camping. Hard to know which one you want until you get there. HOWEVER, I don't think there is a bad spot. Loop B restrooms were clogged from what sounds like may be because of sand from the river. It happens. The maintenance crew is top notch. I reported a breaker problem with power, they had it done before I was back from a supply run. Most of the people were great. Except that one ranger (not law enforcement) that gave the campsites a hard time for doing normal camping stuff and playing. She probably lives a lonely life and is great at parties. Easy access to the river. The campsite is a less common, but known drop off/pick up point, so the location is prime. Plenty of wood to grab for fires. A lot of logs are available in case you have a splitting maul. The campsite itself doesn't have any provisions for sale. So bring your propane and things. However, the float guys at the top of the hill have some basic things. The ranger station allows you to borrow life jackets, for free. So do that before renting some.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Utilities
- Water and electricity services are unavailable from November 15th to March 14th yearly.

Safety & rules
- Climbing or diving from bluffs is highly discouraged for safety reasons.
- Swimming alone during high water conditions is prohibited for safety reasons.
Pets
- Pets are not allowed on park trails except for designated trails listed in the rule.

- Do not move firewood; obtain it locally to prevent pest spread.

- Special events require a Special Use Permit beyond pavilion reservations.
