This was our first time to Lake Almanor and loved the experience. The campsite was quiet, clean, and well-kept. The sites were far enough in spacing that although you could see other campers, you could still feel as if you were in the wilderness; in addition, it was quiet enough that wildlife and birds came around. Would definitely choose this location again.

Site was great. Plenty of space for trailers, tents, Rv, boats etc. The only downsides are:
it's right on the highway and there is a recreation permit road that makes a loop that goes right between the campsite and everyone can use bathrooms. That road goes next to the site and people who have no proper etiquette when it comes to outdoors, dusted us out a couple times. Others slowed down as to not kick up a bunch of dirt. Other than that, it was great. Nice big fire pit, lots of picnic tables bolted to the ground. Tons of trash cans that got checked daily. We will probably stay here again when they aren't working on every road around the lake

We got lucky and got a pretty site. However, it’s sad to see how tore up most of the campground is. The site that was my family’s favorite during my childhood has had all the trees cut down and was just a mess. That was very sad to see. Unfortunately, the camp hosts were wonderful on the south side and tried very hard to slow people down and manage camper poor behaviors.

My campsite was okay, but many were very barren with zero shade as a result of past fires in the area. Very dusty. No “lake side” spots. No lake view. A bit of a walk to the beach area if you’re interested in kayaking or paddle boarding. No showers, which I anticipated. No camp store or place to get supplies. Probably wouldn’t return to this campground.

Went over the 4th of July weekend and had an amazing time. The campground host is great and very friendly. For a large holiday it was no overly packed or noisy. Bathrooms were clean and since it just opened since the fire everything was newer. Lots of firewood to gather since they are clearing he area out, the only downside, not much shade (bring your ezups). Was in spot 11 and tent camped. Can't wait to go back!

Camp host and her family were very nice. All the flushable toilets were closed for repair, very very few people kept their dogs on leashes. The campsites themselves were a work in progress as lots of rut marks from equipment and downed limbs/trees everywhere…but lots of free firewood too. Bring a rake. The other people camping were the issues, driving off with black tanks open, piling trash outside dumpsters, less than zero recognition of other people camping. Would go back again, in a while, the lake was absolutely worth any of the negatives.

None of the bathrooms were operational, and we weren't notified of this ahead of time. More than half of the trees had been cut down, but most hadn't been removed. The campground host was responsive and helpful throughout our stay, and the general store nearby was very helpful.

I really like this campground! something you need to know is recently they have done heavy trimming and currently a lot of the campsites are full of bushes, big sticks/trunks from pines and some sites doesn't have good space to set up the tent, you have to clean up around a bit. Hopefully gets better as the site continues the maintenance/clean up

Our campsite had been logged over and there were no flat places in the entire campsite. There was no shade. There was no table. The men's bathroom was out of order due to a septic system failure.

The camper in the adjacent campsite allowed us to set up our tent on a flat area in her site and we used one of the two tables in her site.

We had spoken to the camp host about choosing another vacant (non-reserved) site in the campground but she said we would have to pay for the second site even though the site we had reserved was uninhabitable.

We have photos of all the issues if desired.

Needless to say we were very disappointed. We camped for 9 days on this trip and this campsite was far and away the worst site on the entire trip. I would actually say it was the worst campsite we have ever been in during our 50+ years of camping.

The recent removal of trees and plants left the campsite and campground a total dirt field. With time it should regrow the plants that make forest campgrounds beautiful
