We kayaked to Black Mountain camp from the boat launch. We launched around 7 pm in October, so within 45 minutes it was dark out, but we downloaded the map ahead of time so we could tell where we were going by GPS. Black Mountain is a great site in a more secluded part of the lake. We were within the No Wake zone, but a lot of boats ignored that, so don't expect the site to be completely free of running motors. We didn't have any issue with mosquitoes or ticks, but there was some poison oak further inland from our site. The outhouses at the site were fine. All in all we had a great and relaxing time. October seems like a great time to go and not worry about others camping close by.

Went in early fall on a colder day. Place was deserted and it was magical. Campsite wasn't water side but it was my first time there so I'm unsure of what the water levels are topically. Either way, picnic tables and pit latrine FTW

Had a great time here, very quiet time of year, the yellow jackets were awful but otherwise highly recommend.

We were the only ones at this campground. It was incredibly quiet and peaceful with views of the sun setting over the water. Things to know: this campground like all the other sites is pretty sloped with small tent pads. Some sites are bigger than others and can support a large tent, but don't count on it. Also, the lake has tiny leeches in the mud so wear water shoes

Great place but know your campsites. Some are totally overgrown or sometimes flooded in early season. But you cannot beat this experience for solitude and nature.

Really nice spot to camp. The chemical toilets are pretty bad, but they work. Camp sites are close together but also close to the shore. Bring a small tent, there is no space for giant tents. We actually missed the turn off in the lake and went up the wrong way and came back. Look for no wake buoys, not a visible channel- because it turns it looks like the side of the lake. I'd go here again, it's a fun experience.

Hi, this review is for LP4 only. This site is right on the water and there’s no real area to camp or pitch tent. There are so many yellow jackets and wasps (July) that we brought wasp traps which helped mitigate the discomfort so be advised otherwise this is a lovely spot. Might want to reserve any of the other LP sites for pitching a tent however 👍

Take Highway 101 north of San Francisco to the town of Healdsburg and exit on Dry Creek Road. Travel west 11 miles to reach the visitor center on the right. The public boat ramp is 1.5 miles further up the road.
The campground is accessible via Highway 101, which is approximately 11 miles east of the visitor center accessed from Dry Creek Road.
