What Guests Are Saying
Boulder Basin Campground is praised for its beautiful, remote setting, well-maintained facilities, and ample space between campsites, making it ideal for families and nature lovers. Many enjoy the scenic hikes and peaceful ambiance among the trees and granite boulders. However, some visitors have encountered issues with site reservations and challenging access roads, which may deter those with lower-clearance vehicles. Overall, the campground offers a solid getaway experience for those prepared for its remote nature.

Site was quiet, picturesque, and surrounded by a ton of boulders to either climb or look at. The campsites toward the back of the campground are generally a bit more secluded but come with the risk of climbers being in your area for all hours of the day. Most people are amenable and will gladly give you space if you ask though! Overall, a great place to get away for the weekend

Boulder basin Is a beautiful place, the road is better than it was, but still a bit rough. The short hike to the watchtower is a must do. Fire restrictions are almost always in place, and there is no water. If you go prepared, it's a great campground.

The campsite was well maintained and the restroom were clean-ish and plenty of toilet paper. The rangers picked up the trash from the trash cans daily.

It's summertime, so outdoor climbing spots are too hot. Black Mountain bouldering is higher elevation, so decided to take the youth climbing team up here for some night climbing. Always recommend calling the ranger station for an update on the road. No campfires were allowed since it is fire season. We arrived around 3pm, set up camp, then bouldered from 4pm into the night. The rock was still warm, but the temps were decent. Definitely the way to go in the summer! Campsites were clean. Keep in mind only vault toilets and no water. Be sure to bring enough water for your trip. Such a fun trip! Great escape. Not super crowded. You're definitely isolated up in the mountains. Great views of the city below.

The campsite was well situated, quite, and well maintained. Currently a fire ban so no fires allowed, but a nice fire pit / grate when the ban is lifted. Definitely need a AWD or 4WD vehicle with ground clearance to make it up to the camp site though!

The place was beautiful, and the drive up the mountain was fun. The restrooms were clean, even though they were vault-style. Surprisingly, it was cold at night during the 4th of July. The main issue was the rattlesnakes. Our tent was underneath a snake den, and a rattlesnake came right up to us during the day and went through our campsite like it owned it.

Had a wonderful time at the campsite. Beautiful location and secluded. The road not too difficult, just have to go slow.
Also it's a quick walk up to the fire and Watchtower and an amazing view from there

Great spot, a little over 4 mi unpaved road to get there though. Highly recommend an suv at minimum but did see a few sedans. Just FYI to those who might not be comfortable with that or sharing the road. Otherwise great spot, lots of bathrooms. Check for restrictions as well.

The road up is super messed up. Would be nice if some of the nastier sections near the summit could get touched up.
Campground itself was in great condition, pit toilets were good, really wish we could have done a fire up there, but I get it.
Will def be back to this campsite
