What Guests Are Saying

Marion Mountain Campground offers a beautiful and peaceful setting for camping and hiking, with well-maintained campsites and stunning views. The location is convenient for accessing trails, including the Marion Mountain Trailhead, and is a short drive to Idyllwild for supplies. However, visitors should be prepared for limited amenities, such as no potable water and basic restroom facilities, and expect close quarters with neighbors during busy weekends.

We actually love camping on Marion Mountain and this was our second time there. The reason why it was a 3 star stay instead of 5 was solely based off of our neighboring campers. I can’t remember the site we were assigned, but it happened to be sandwiched in between 2 large families. Well, sometime in the afternoon, a pair of the parents got WASTED and started screaming at each other, and thus, set the mood for the entire night.
They calmed down around 9:00pm, but sometime around 2:00am, they somehow started back up and it was impossible to sleep. I “woke up” around 5:00am and they were still arguing. It was pretty uncomfortable to witness. Especially with their kids there, who were running around from one site to the other (which meant kids running through our spot and freaking out our dog)

All in all, book early, and try to reserve a space that’s not in the middle of 2 other sites.

We love this place and go back every year. The bathrooms need an upgrade, but that’s all.

Nice camp site. The sites are not very close and access to great hiking. The bathrooms don't have running water. Glorified port-a-potties. Not nice. Otherwise we had a great stay.

The toilets were completely neglected. We arrived early afternoon on a Friday and never saw the restrooms cleaned or replenished. They stunk so badly from the very beginning. I overheard anther camper say she'd rather go out in the woods to go to the bathroom than use the toilets at this campground, and I agree. One toilet wasn't available (padlocked), which was inconvenient since our loop was basically full.
Our site was fine but very steep climb from the parking spot to the table, and the table wasn't on even ground.
There are only a few sites I would be interested in here, but only if the bathrooms were better taken care of.

Pleasantly surprised at finding this gem of a campground. Two small loops of sites. Access to Marion Mountain trailhead to San Jacinto peak is within the campground. While had trouble ascertaining the availability of water a nearby Fern Basin - turned out there was water available at that adjacent campground - so could fill up with minimum inconvenience. Roadway and pad were in excellent condition. Campground clean. Would visit again.
