What Guests Are Saying

Marion Mountain Campground offers a beautiful and peaceful setting for camping and hiking, with well-maintained campsites and stunning views. The location is convenient for accessing trails, including the Marion Mountain Trailhead, and is a short drive to Idyllwild for supplies. However, visitors should be prepared for limited amenities, such as no potable water and basic restroom facilities, and expect close quarters with neighbors during busy weekends.

I've always loved this site. I love its remoteness and the quiet. I love that it's fairly empty and peaceful.

Small campground with great views. Trails accessible right from the campground. This far into the summer season, there was already a fire ban and no water at all at campground. It was no problem just check with the ranger station before planning your trip so you're prepared.

No host on site, so unfortunately not all campers are respectful and following rules (fires during ban). We had lots of trash left behind at our site and had to do a pick up before setting up our stuff.

It was an out of the way campground that was clean and quiet. Trails all around to explore and had a Great sunset view to the west.

The campsites at Marion Mountain are beautiful and well-kept, although we were glad we heeded prior warnings and brought a rake to even out the ground in order to pitch our tent. It’s a great home-base to explore the mountain and the natural features and hiking options around Idyllwild. It’s also a short, convenient drive into town. The campsites are very close together, so be prepared to get cozy with your neighbors! On Fridays and weekends there are lots of children, families, loud music, etc. The vault toilet facilities at Marion Mountain are awful, with human waste, rodent feces, spiders and ants everywhere. You could hear the rodents squeaking and scurrying around in the walls and vents behind the toilets when using them.

Great location to camp and hike from, especially if you are doing the shorter (but steep) Marion Mtn Trailhead. Bathrooms were not bad, stocked with TP. No potable water was available when we were there mid/late July.

Quietest campground experience in years! My fellow campers (only 3 others) were as quiet as me. No water, that's a first for this campground in my experience, and more notable, there were bears for the first time (in my experience). The dumpsters are not bear-resistant, so two bears visited each night - loudly.

Great campground near Marion Mountain trail to head to the San Jacinto peak. We were there Saturday to Monday. Only a few other campers there. There was lots of shade and very quiet campground. My only complaint is that there was no water at the campground, due a broken pipe. Luckily I checked the website and saw this before I headed up there, so I brought water with me. We ended up getting water from Stone Creek Campground at the bottom of the hill for the 2nd day.

Site 11: No running water this time. There are a lot of insects, be prepared. No service with AT&T and still no open fire use. Very cold at night and decent weather in the day under shade.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds. The sites along the ridge have spectacular sunsets shows. Being retired, we only camp during the week and often find ourselves to be the only campers in the campground or maybe one or two others. There is no water available but bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Sites are well spaced.
We feel so fortunate to have found this haven!
