Loved the silence, the ample space, the short walk to the lake. Restrooms were clean, running water. The drive into the campground was a bit bumpy but we did not mind it all.

There is a stretch of gravel road here that can get dusty, so try to pick a spot as far away from the main road as possible.

Big open campsites! The campground was well kept. Each site had a drive thru drive way, bear box and trash can/can recycling bin. The campground was very close (walking distance) to the lake and Cinder cone trail. Did not feel overcrowded at all! Very happy we stayed here!

The area was well maintained and peaceful. The sites in loop A were spacious and spread out far enough from one another. It appeared that more than half of the sites in 'loop A' were level. The parking spots for each site could easily fit 3 cars or a trailer.
Everything was great, BUT BE PREPARED for the dirt road/turn off from the freeway. It is about 6 1/2-mile drive and very bumpy. The road felt and looked like a bulldozer just rutted the road and left a depression with its tracks. For several miles I went no faster than 8 MPH to prevent my vehicle from rattling apart (lol).
Once at the campground the roads were smoother and the scenery was amazing.

This was a crowded and lively campground, despite the fairly remote location. Great access to trails and the lake, and I saw lots of wildlife in the area (including the adorable chipmunks and ground squirrels running all over the place). Seems like a good location for groups and parties, but it wasn't ideal for a solo camper looking for tranquility.

The road to the campground was recently upgraded, likely after the Dixie fire. Restrooms are clean and a dedicated dishwashing station is available.
The campsite itself is spacious with an extra long pull in. It is though not quite as shaded as some of the other nearby campsites.
Be careful getting to Butte Lake from the West Google maps does not use 32N21 when turning South from CA-44. The unnamed road was half obstructed with deadfall trees

Cleanest campground I have visited in years. Second peskiest ground squirrels in northern CA (the bear lockers get opened, they come running..)

Very rowdy group camp sites. Fire ban in effect, but everyone still held huge bonfires.

From Redding, California drive 63 miles east on State Highway 44 to Old Station. From the intersection of 44 and State Highway 89, continue east on 44 for 11 miles. Watch for sign to Butte Lake Campground. Turn right and continue for six miles on a rough gravel road.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
