What Guests Are Saying

Butte Lake Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained environment with clean restrooms, spacious sites, and close proximity to the stunning Cinder Cone Trail and Butte Lake, making it ideal for outdoor activities like swimming and hiking. Many campers appreciated the tranquility and wildlife, as well as the friendly park staff. However, some noted issues with steeply inclined sites, dust from fast-moving vehicles, and limited ranger presence, which could detract from the experience.

The campground is fine, it's the road getting there that is not. When we made the reservation we had no idea that we would have such a rough road getting into the park. 6 mi of rough gravel dirt road, approximately 45 minutes on this road. If you are tenting, it is probably fine, but not recommended for trailers. We have a toy hauler and it actually pulled the tie down out of the floor on the way in. Still trying to get the dirt and dust out of the trailer, inside and out. In the campground our spot had the table and fire ring quite far from where we were parked and on the other side of the trailer door. We will never return to this spot. They could at least grade it once in a while.

there are bathrooms on the camp grounds which they don’t tell you in on the website which was a huge plus to find out when we got there. we also saw bears running around the camp road into the camp grounds so when driving be careful there are a lot of animals that use the dirt road into camp as a path

Great out-of-the-way campsite with nice amenities and great setting. The lake is beautiful and there are lots of wonderful side trips to take in the area using this campsite as a base. The cinder cone hike definitely is strenuous, but is worth the effort. Take your time and rest often. The elevation is no joke. Speaking as a geologist, the fabulous lava flow really is, especially when viewed from the top of the cinder cone. You'll never forget that view.

Serene atmosphere, scenic hikes and flushing toilets made it a worthwhile camping experience.
