What Guests Are Saying
Butte Lake Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained environment with clean restrooms, spacious sites, and close proximity to the stunning Cinder Cone Trail and Butte Lake, making it ideal for outdoor activities like swimming and hiking. Many campers appreciated the tranquility and wildlife, as well as the friendly park staff. However, some noted issues with steeply inclined sites, dust from fast-moving vehicles, and limited ranger presence, which could detract from the experience.

This is one of my favorite camping places in CA that I keep coming back to at least every couple of years. I was concerned about the lake level being very low this year but fortunately that wasn't the case, it is noticeably lower than previous years though. I was also happy to see that the damage from recent fires was not as bad as anticipated, fire crew did a wonderful job protecting this gem. Nearest grocery and cell phone coverage is 17 mi N.W. in Old Station but the fact that it's so remote only adds to the greatness of the experience. WATCH OUT FOR MICE though, they seem to be more numerous than in the past, maybe because of the fires? Our trailer was invaded by 3 mice on the very first night and that spoiled the fun a bit but there's always a lesson to be learned, all entry points into the trailer are covered now, hopefully the experience will never be repeated.

Love that there are no lights in or around the campground and restrooms at night. Also like that the campground is remote, away from any main roads and a bit more difficult to get to. These things help to keep it quiet all day, and dark at night so we could really enjoy the natural area.

Very beautiful Lake! The ground at campsite B38 was soft and uneven. It is a pull thru. Also there were many burned large logs on the ground. Our grandaughter loved touching the black burned charcoal logs and getting black soot on her hands, face and clothes. Many chipmunks were eager to share whatever food we dropped. Lots of fun for all of the family. We had a 26 ft travel trailer. Our site didnt have much trafic and was fairly close to the flush toliets.

Sites are pretty close to together. The campground is right on the edge of the burn area so the voices echo and carry through the woods very easily. You can even hear your neighbors arguing! This site has a broken fire ring and it is mostly on a hill, not many places to pitch a tent. The campground did have running water, flushable toilets, a dishwashing sink, so those were some luxuries we weren’t expecting
