What Guests Are Saying
Butte Lake Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained environment with clean restrooms, spacious sites, and close proximity to the stunning Cinder Cone Trail and Butte Lake, making it ideal for outdoor activities like swimming and hiking. Many campers appreciated the tranquility and wildlife, as well as the friendly park staff. However, some noted issues with steeply inclined sites, dust from fast-moving vehicles, and limited ranger presence, which could detract from the experience.

Campsites were clean and well laid out with good distance between them and lots of nice pine tress for shade and to hang a hammock. The camp hosts were really helpful and kind, and had firewood for sale if you needed it - you are also allowed to bring your own wood. The campsite location is walking distance from Butte Lake and the Cinder Cone Volcano, so there is great access to the Northern features of the park. Once you leave HWY 44 there is about 6.5 mi of gravel road to reach the campsites. Our Prius did ok but it was very slow going. We were thankful the road didn't have too many deep potholes or washboarding - no 4WD or extra clearance necessary. It's about a 2 hour drive from the campsite to Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center and the Southern end/features of the park, so plan accordingly for time if you want to head down that way. Over all we had a great 4th of July weekend and the trip was definitely worth it!

This is a wonderful campground and gorgeous area of Lassen Volcanic Park. It's a unique kayaking experience to paddle in between the long fingers of basalt lava that poured into the lake, creating small blue-green fjords. (It can get very windy, though, so check!). Trail and campground crews have done a superhuman job clearing burn debris and making trails enjoyable and beautiful even after the Dixie fire. (As well as fire crews for saving the campground, I'm sure.) It's amazing how many trees still keep the campground cool and shady. The experience was made even better by wonderful campground hosts. Thank you so much!

Campsite was great and while the campgrounds were full, it wasn't overcrowded. The campgrounds are very close to Butte Lake and to the Cinder Cone Trail Head which is convenient. The facilities were well kept and the camp hosts were welcoming and great company.

So beautiful. The drive in felt like a secluded location. The area had a lot of debris we had to clear away, but we enjoyed the site very much.

We spent two nights at Butte Lake Campground. The first night was great as we had a good campsite and the campground wasn't too crowded. The second night was the beginning of the July 4th weekend and it was very crowded and noisy, with a very nearby campsite having a party and playing music, so we didn't enjoy it and were very ready to get out of there early the next morning. It was really great having the flush toilet facilities.

There is a bit of gravel road before getting to the campsite. The water source is a bit far from campsite.
Other than that, pretty great.

A15 campground - the locker of food box was broken, need to fix it. The rest was a great stay in very beautiful place.
