Warmly greeted by host on arrival and departure. Little to no freeway noise. Plenty of room in site. Very clean outhouse. Beautiful spot with no neighbors behind, as expected. Just a quick overnight, but a great one.

Campground was extremely spacious, lots of space between you and your neighbors, which was nice, except the bathrooms felt pretty far away, and a little hike up a hill. It was very quiet mid-week. The area feels dry - no shrubbery on the ground - just pine trees everywhere, and plenty of burn scar in the forest on the way in, and at various points on the hike to Cinder Cone and around the lake, so it was just a bit stark. Boating on the lake was nice, though, and hiking up to Cinder Cone was great, if you like your stark lava-rock scenes. Spot B4 was nice and quiet; not too close to the main road which was dusty. No campground host; NPS staff completely absent, but the bathrooms seemed clean and well-maintained.

Beautiful campground. Super clean washrooms. Drinking water and kitchen sink available. Only drawback was the location of the site to the lake access road. Otherwise awesome place

The only downside is that our campsite didn't have much of a flat area so it was hard to find 2 spots to pitch tents. The grill on the fire pit was broken but other than that, the campground itself is awesome. Flush toilets and potable water with a dishwashing station are camping luxuries!

Road here is a bit rough , it’s an unpaved forest road. Campsites seemed a bit more spread out than Manzanita Lake. Very close to Butte Lake and Cinder Cone trailhead

Butte Lake was a great camping spot! Cinder Cone Trail was right next to it, and it was beautiful taking a walk along there.

Online only reservations need to be communicated BEFORE drivers leave cell coverage. Showing up at the campground with plenty of spaces but no way to know what’s available or the ability to reserve on site when there’s no cell coverage is a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

From Redding, California drive 63 miles east on State Highway 44 to Old Station. From the intersection of 44 and State Highway 89, continue east on 44 for 11 miles. Watch for sign to Butte Lake Campground. Turn right and continue for six miles on a rough gravel road.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
