What Guests Are Saying
Butte Lake Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained environment with clean restrooms, spacious sites, and close proximity to the stunning Cinder Cone Trail and Butte Lake, making it ideal for outdoor activities like swimming and hiking. Many campers appreciated the tranquility and wildlife, as well as the friendly park staff. However, some noted issues with steeply inclined sites, dust from fast-moving vehicles, and limited ranger presence, which could detract from the experience.

Great site. Beautiful lake. Each access to the hike up the volcano. Good bathrooms. The only issue was that some of the smaller bathrooms were locked. Thank you National Parks!

Fantastic campsite. Sites are not very private but they are enormous! Location is amazing and right next to the Cinder Cone hike. Heed the warnings of the dirt road into the campsite, though — I would not want to do it in anything other than an AWD or, at the very least, a high-clearance vehicle. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Everything was great! Only complaint is that there’s no running water anywhere and the bigger bathroom buildings were closed, only leaving the outhouse. I assume it’s probably just the aftermath of the fire and not getting everything back up and running. But like I said, everything else was great, so this wasn’t that big of a deal.

There were warnings about the road. Heed then! Late in the season the road is 95% dashboard. I took 40 minutes to go 6 mi. Many passed me, and I felt sorry for their suspension. This campground was surprisingly full for such a road. But it provided access to several trails, including Cibder Cone

What a spot. Big pine forest surrounding the campground, the lake is majestic in the mornings, and it sits on the trail to Cinder Cone which is incredible (I recommend going down the backside of the dome and then to the right to explore the painted sand dunes, and if your up to it go further down to Snag Lake or one of the other ones out there). One of the most unique landscapes ever. Highly recommend
