A wonderful location to camp! The amenities are well-kept and the campsites are spacious. The lake is beautiful, and it is a quick walk from even the farthest campsites to the lake. Other campers were courteous and quiet even during the daytime.
Make sure to bring bug spray, as the summertime brings lots of mosquitoes! We brought a bug screen for the camp table and it was very helpful in the early evening time. We had a wonderful experience and will absolutely be back, and we recommend this campsite to any that are looking for a respite!

It was our first time in Lassen. We chose this remote corner to hike the Cinder cone, one of the 4 types of volcanoes found in the Park. The hike was spectacular. We would recommend shoes that work well in loose sands.
We camped in the B loop in June during the week. It was quiet but on the cold side at night. Just be aware that gravel roads generate lots of dust. Cold but excellent water, flush toilets and bear lockers are available.

Site A3 is next to the service road that is not paved. Dirt was kicked up a lot when a car drove by. This site also is not level for an RV. Site A4 and Site A3 share one driveway, unless there is no occupancy in either site, it is not a true pull through as it is advertised. The 6.5 mile gravel road into the campground should be paved. It is very bumpy if you have an RV.

The campground was clean and well kept. One bathroom was in repair at the day use area, but the pit toilets were there. There are great hiking trails and the hike up the cinder cone is short, tough and well worth it! Kayaking on Butte Lake was exceptional! I look forward to going back in the future.

Beautiful, well-maintained site. Easy access to Butte Lake and Cinder Cone trailhead. (Be warned, longer hike to get to the base of CC than you may think!)
Some complain about the gravel road to access the site but I noticed even a Prius navigated it with ease. It has washboarded a bit so not super comfortable ride but you don't go to a remote(ish) site like this for creature comforts. Just take is slow and don't pretend you're in a rally race like so many drivers on this road do.
No cell service for us so bring a map or download your route before heading up.

A virtually empty campground yet reservations were required for all sites at a place with no cell phone reception to make reservations. And there was no ranger present at the site except for cleaning out toilets the following morning. We did make reservations, but the site did not look like it matched the description. We would liked to have switched to another site but there was no way to do so.

From Redding, California drive 63 miles east on State Highway 44 to Old Station. From the intersection of 44 and State Highway 89, continue east on 44 for 11 miles. Watch for sign to Butte Lake Campground. Turn right and continue for six miles on a rough gravel road.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
