Spanish Creek Campground

Stayed in Group site B, it’s a nice site. Can only really fit about 3 cars there. We had a small trailer and RV. It’s on a slope. Nice quiet campsite. It is far from the water, 2 minute drive by car all down hill or about a 10 minute walk down hill.

Nice campsites, privacy, very helpful camp host.

The toilets were out of toilet paper. They hadn't been cleaned in a while. For sure not while i was there

The upper loop is well shaded and the sights felt fairly private with vegetation between them. The tables and fire pits are on pavement and the driveways fairly level. The lower loop (by the creek) has a lot more cleared space and the tables and fire pits are on dirt.

I really enjoyed our stay there. Yes, the train is loud, and some trains are longer than others. BUT, it is temporary, and it is truly very quiet when the train is not running. My husband and I really enjoyed our time in site 17. It was close to the river, but we didn't get the mosquitoes too bad. We were close enough to the bathroom, but not so bad we got the smell. There was plenty of room for us to back up our small trailer and have 2 vehicles. There is only a neighbor on 1 side, so we felt like we had more privacy. There were about 2 hours mid day where the sun beat down pretty hard and wasn't a bunch of shade, but this is also a great time to put your feet in the water. Shallow enough to walk out in. There are little water snakes and craw dads to keep the kids entertained. A friend caught several fish while he was fly fishing in the afternoon. Will definitely check for this spot again.

Great location! Close to many nearby lakes in the area. Upper loop sites are more secluded and have less foot traffic than the lower loop which is closer to the stream. Everyone was respectful of quiet hours. The site itself wasn't super private, but everyone was very friendly.

We started with sites 5 and 7 which were on the upper part of the campground you have to walk down a hill to get to the water so the next day we switched to 16 and 17 close to the water. Campground is nice we enjoyed it.

The campsites are clean and nice. Spanish creek was lovely and crowded with day use tourists. However the continuous train schedule was really nerve wracking. The tracks are right above the creek and the sound of them braking was horrendous. It echoed through the canyon all night. We left 2 days early because we couldn’t get any sleep. It was a nice visit but I would not recommend if you are seeking R & R.

Lovely little campground, and not too crowded when I was there. The camp host was nice and helpful. Great place to stay if you're looking to explore the nearby Butterfly Valley Botanical Area. As others have mentioned, the trains are quite loud and operate intermittently at all hours. If you're sensitive to noise, bring earplugs or look elsewhere.
