This campground was really nice. The lake wasn't nearly as crowded as Lake Tahoe was, but Tahoe was still accessible if you wanted to go to it. The campgrounds was clean and quiet.

Great camping location. Unfortunately, too many visitors store their paddle boards/kayaks and other water items on the beach overnight so it can get a bit cluttered on a busy weekend.

Stayed In a yurt and it was an amazing experience. Not sure why so many negative reviews about the staff but we had an amazing experience with them. There are only four common showers so needs a bit planning. Overall great experience and can’t wait to return

This year marked our 24th year at Fallen Leaf Lake, and as always, the lake was spectacular, the campground was beautiful, and wonderful memories were made.
Unfortunately, one thing has changed in recent years — and noticeably so this year: the hospitality at the front kiosk. Two of the staff members there were consistently unfriendly and short-tempered, not just with our group but with campers across the campground. It became a running topic of conversation among campers throughout our stay.
One incident stood out. When a member of our group checked in and mentioned the unwelcoming attitude, the staff member responded by crossing out the "Scan this to leave feedback" QR code on her parking pass. Discouraging guests from leaving feedback seems like exactly the opposite of what the campground would want.
I do want to recognize that a third woman at the kiosk was warm, accommodating, and a pleasure to interact with — she deserves credit for representing the campground well.
We're the type of campers who want to preserve Fallen Leaf for future generations and always leave our campsite cleaner than we found it. This experience won't stop us from returning for our 25th year, but when reservation time comes around, we'll be hoping the front kiosk has become a friendlier place.
NOTE: staffing the campground this year were employees of ExplorUS(https://goexplorus.com/). The company's website lists their core values, including "We are committed to providing extraordinary hospitality experiences that create lifelong memories for all.". I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but I can see how some would say that's nothing but lip service.

This was our favorite campsite in around Tahoe. Its sits deeper in the woods which is much more quiet for a good night of sleep as opposed to campgrounds along the street closer to town. However, for that same reason bears are way more active. Gotta make sure food and other scented items are hidden before it’s dark. We had 3 separate bear encounters in 1 night but they were not aggressive and backed away just after some yelling.
There’s a pretty good distance between sites which allows for more privacy and peace and bathrooms/showers clean and maintained daily. There’s a small convenience store upfront and rangers are friendly. Also there’s the Fallen Leaf Lake at the short walking distance from the camp where you can swim or peddle-board. Lots of space to ride bikes and do any activities with kids.
Will definitely reccoment!

great location
helpful staff
close to trails
no soap in bathrooms
no place to wash dishes
coin operated showers are cumbersome (no coins for $ machine at the showers) and expensive ($1/3min) compared to other campgrounds

The lake is amazing so clean and clear, the restrooms are clean and the trails are great for hiking/walking and biking.

this is a great place. be prepared for bears every night and most days. one downside is the number of RV campers with loud gas generators that ate on most of the day. nasty if you are near one and want to relax outside. also, intense smoke that stays low from campfires late into the nights and most mornings. some don't respect the speed limits (a few massively) and endanger kids who race down the streets (some unsupervised into the night). some folks blast air and car horns in the middle of the night when a bear arrives, when they should just have food put away so there is no need to wake everyone. anyway, a magical place but more lately bring in urban attitudes and problems.

Wonderful campsite and campground experience. Camp hosts were kind and helpful! Restrooms were clean and accessible. Fallen Leaf Lake Campground is one of the better campsites we have stayed at.
