Was only staying one night; set up camp and then proceeded to get swarmed with bees. I moved to another site and got swarmed there as well, hundreds. Packed up camp and went and hung out till midnight at the Keys turnout.

We went there in June, afraid it would be too hot but it was great. Great stargazing and awesome hikes and overall experience. Would definitely come back.

Camp site was perfect! The people were horrendous… the camp site across from us was blasting music until 5am in the morning much to the chagrin of the entire campgrounds. I wish there were signs that enforced a quiet hour and also limiting light use. I’d go back but probably just on a weekday to avoid the party crowd

Where to begin?!?! Before I left, I was already planning my next adventure there. I went in June of 26. I will say while it wasn't sweltering, it was hot enough to get light headed when I wasn't watching my water intake. BRING LOTS OF WATER!!!!! or die... We had two nights out there and saw NO water....anywhere. So if you're planning on filtering water, think again. Lots of salty treats, maybe some electrolyte concoctions. Sunscreen, wide brim hat, long loose clothes. water. tweezers for those cactus that say hello when you're not paying attention. Good comfortable footwear because you are going to want to explore every rock formation you see. There is not much for cell service so I suggest a handheld GPS. This way you can mark a waypoint and get lost without getting lost. For me I think the highlights were first and foremost, our campground. We stayed at jumbo rocks all the way towards the back of the campground. When we woke up, we popped out of our tent and walked into the rocks on our site. Right at the campground was awesome structures and views. Hidden Valley is pretty gorgeous. We were there in the late afternoon, the breeze was perfect and the colors popped. Hall of Horrors was an afterthought but I was so glad we stopped. Walking through, around, under these rock structures was AWESOME!! But more Importantly, I saw and photoed a scorpion! Barker Dam was another cool spot. The water was gone by June, maybe just a dry season, but this was the only spot I had seen actual green grass. But again, more importantly, a snake. Not just any snake but a Mojave Green Rattlesnake!!! Super calm even when I was closer than I should have been while taking pictures. Arch Rock was pretty cool to hike around and explore. This is one of those experiences that I enjoyed so much, that i want to bring others so they can appreciate what this bit of nature has to offer.

Beautiful campground. No shade but space to put up umbrella or tent. While you couldn’t see your neighbors and the site felt private, you could hear every word of those next to you. I think we had bad luck with those around us who kept us up until 1 am and then up again at 3am with a generator that ran until we finally pulled camp and left at 6:30am. No host on site.

Amazing stay at Jumbo Rocks – highly recommended!
Incredible location right among the massive rock formations in Joshua Tree. Waking up and being surrounded by the boulders was a truly unique experience.
The sunsets here were absolutely stunning and made the whole stay unforgettable.
Overall, a magical spot in the middle of Joshua Tree – would definitely come back!

General
- Download the NPS app prior to visiting the park – trail maps and more!
- Reservations are required year round and can be made the same day or up to 6 months in advance.
- A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out (noon) time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time (noon) on the day following the arrival date.
- The park allows six people, two vehicles and three tents per site, however, some sites are small and may not accommodate the maximum number of people and vehicles. See Site Details for specifics. There is no overflow parking. Trailers count as a vehicle.
- Please call 760-367-5554 for information.
- $30 per vehicle entrance fee is in addition to camping fee.
- There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites; nor is a dump station located nearby. Potable water is available at the Oasis Visitor Center, 11 miles away.
- Generator use is permitted only from 7–9 am, noon–2 pm, and 5–7 pm.
- Pets are not allowed on trails but are welcome in the campground, on any dirt road or within 100 feet of any road. Pets must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long at all times. Pets may not be left unattended or tied to an object; leaving pets in unattended vehicles is strongly discouraged – especially on warm days.
- Don’t Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood near the park and burning it on-site, and do not use park vegetation, living or dead, for fuel.
- All organized events require a special use permit and must be held in designated areas; contact the Special Park Use Coordinator, jeannie_wilson@nps.gov.
- Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation. Late Cancellation Fees: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.
- STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood. For more information visit the National Invasive Species Information Center.
- FIRE BAN fire restriction are currently in effect that prohibit charcoal fires, wood-burning fires, and charcoal grills. NO Fires! Only gas or propane stoves are permitted. Starting June 15, ending October 1st of every year.
