The campsite was clean and ready when we arrived. The sunset walks at the rocks were amazing.
What was not great was the traffic and people running around the campground at 2 AM

The pros are pretty obvious here, a site in a beautiful and quiet place, so I'll focus on the not so obvious aspects of the site. There's no more presentation at the amphitheater due to budget cuts at the moment. I'm not even sure there's a camp host, I only saw a park representative drive by once a day. There's no driveway with this site. The language on the listing and pictures makes it seem like there could be a driveway you can back into here but there is not. You are just parked on the road next to your site (120 and 119 have small driveways). 121 and 118 are essentially opposite sides of the same site so I'd recommend booking both unless you are really comfortable splitting a site with strangers. Also, you are very close to the pit toilet and you will smell it frequently. This is pretty common for the whole camp though.

Camping for a few days at Jumbo rock campsite in late May was excellent. In the camp ground we were able to start the skull rock hike and from a small driving distance was arch rock hike and heart rock hike, which was wonderful. We hiked early morning and evening since it was warm during the day. Stargazing is amazing. At jumbo rock there’s a few areas within the campsite that have large flat rocks where you could literally lay down and stargaze. Some live activity during the night such as fox and owls. Live activity during the day was quails, rabbits, squirrels, different reptiles, and yes coyotes. Coyotes do stay away from humans and as soon as they see you, they go the opposite direction, which we felt very safe. Overall, excellent experience.

Jumbo rocks is our go-to for camping at JT. It’s beautiful landscape and the grounds are very well maintained. Rangers are friendly and dedicated (remarkable given how much their funding has been cut). Other campers tend to be respectful of the park and other campers.

Had a lovely stay. The site was close to the neighbors parking spot but had a lovely hill where you could see for miles. Quiet campground and ample space between us and the next site.

General

- Reservations are required year round and can be made the same day or up to 6 months in advance.
- A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out (noon) time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time (noon) on the day following the arrival date.
- The park allows six people, two vehicles and three tents per site, however, some sites are small and may not accommodate the maximum number of people and vehicles. See Site Details for specifics. There is no overflow parking. Trailers count as a vehicle.
- Please call 760-367-5554 for information.
- $30 per vehicle entrance fee is in addition to camping fee.
- There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites; nor is a dump station located nearby. Potable water is available at the Oasis Visitor Center, 11 miles away.
- Generator use is permitted only from 7–9 am, noon–2 pm, and 5–7 pm.
- Pets are not allowed on trails but are welcome in the campground, on any dirt road or within 100 feet of any road. Pets must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long at all times. Pets may not be left unattended or tied to an object; leaving pets in unattended vehicles is strongly discouraged – especially on warm days.
- Don’t Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood near the park and burning it on-site, and do not use park vegetation, living or dead, for fuel.
- All organized events require a special use permit and must be held in designated areas; contact the Special Park Use Coordinator, jeannie_wilson@nps.gov.
- Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation. Late Cancellation Fees: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.
- STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood. For more information visit the National Invasive Species Information Center.
- FIRE BAN fire restriction are currently in effect that prohibit charcoal fires, wood-burning fires, and charcoal grills. NO Fires! Only gas or propane stoves are permitted. Starting June 15, ending October 1st of every year.
