Joshuatree NP is like a star wars movie set. Coming from the Netherlands it was like nothing we had ever seen before. Jumbo rocks campground is in one of the most beautiful spots of the park. You're camping in between gorgeous rock formations. At sunset the light casts some amazing shadows on the rocks. At dusk you'll hear the coyote's howl. Absolutely gorgeous place. Campground is basic but it allows you to completely dissolve into the surroundings. In case of doubt: definately do camp here.

Great spot for getting onto the trail to Skull Rock and letting the kids rock scramble right in our campsite. There were an absolute ton of bees that did make it tricky to be outside our van during the evening and morning times when the bees were active.

Very nice site hidden away in the corner of the campsite. Close to toilets but not too close to have smell wafting over. The site is also close to some popular jumbo rocks so may have some people walking nearby to explore these. We had an amazing sunrise as this campsite has unobstructed views in the right direction contrary to most of the other sites in the campground.

Beautiful campsite (sunrise was gorgeous) and the large boulders provided a good amount of privacy. We slept in a popup truck tent but there were some areas perfect for a small tent or 2. There isn’t any shade so be prepared for that if you’re going during the off season. We had a couple run ins with the coyotes in the area, our dog scared them off and they kept their distance. Was next to the restrooms which is nice but with the heat, you can definitely smell it and there were a lot of flies and bees. Would love to come back again in the fall and explore some more.

The problem with many Jumbo Rocks campsites is that they are very close to each other and if you are camper or RV parking, then you are basically parked on the side of the main street. Some but not all campsites have pull in parking spaces. This site was nice because it had it's own rocks to climb, but the parking wasn't great and was on a downslope.

Wonderful campsite close by to several hikes. My daughter was thrilled that there was a spacious "Cave" on our lot where she spent time hanging out doing art. Millions of stars at night. Best experience ever!

Returning camper. Always enjoyed our stay here. Pitch 31 is a short walk from the car but offers excellent views and is at the edge of the perimeter. Don’t be surprised if you get visits from Coyotes and various birds.
The ravens can cause damage to unsupervised gear (like water canisters).

Jumbo Rocks Campground is accessible via California State Route 62, which is approximately 15 miles to the south, connecting to the town of Twentynine Palms.

General
- Download the NPS app prior to visiting the park – trail maps and more!
- Reservations are required year round and can be made the same day or up to 6 months in advance.
- A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out (noon) time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time (noon) on the day following the arrival date.
- The park allows six people, two vehicles and three tents per site, however, some sites are small and may not accommodate the maximum number of people and vehicles. See Site Details for specifics. There is no overflow parking. Trailers count as a vehicle.
- Please call 760-367-5554 for information.
- $30 per vehicle entrance fee is in addition to camping fee.
- There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites; nor is a dump station located nearby. Potable water is available at the Oasis Visitor Center, 11 miles away.
- Generator use is permitted only from 7–9 am, noon–2 pm, and 5–7 pm.
- Pets are not allowed on trails but are welcome in the campground, on any dirt road or within 100 feet of any road. Pets must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long at all times. Pets may not be left unattended or tied to an object; leaving pets in unattended vehicles is strongly discouraged – especially on warm days.
- Don’t Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood near the park and burning it on-site, and do not use park vegetation, living or dead, for fuel.
- All organized events require a special use permit and must be held in designated areas; contact the Special Park Use Coordinator, [email protected].
- Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation. Late Cancellation Fees: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.
- STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood. For more information visit the National Invasive Species Information Center.
- FIRE BAN fire restriction are currently in effect that prohibit charcoal fires, wood-burning fires, and charcoal grills. NO Fires! Only gas or propane stoves are permitted. Starting June 15, ending October 1st of every year.
