This is our 4th trip to Joshua Tree (over 8 years) of taking our grandchildren to your park. The kids love the rock climbing, the hiking, and camping with us. We've always found the park to be clean and well run and were relieved to find it so this year. We pray that all the National Parks continue to be the wonderful places we've always found them to be! I've been visiting them for over 60 years - and have trips planned to 3 more this year!

Camp site 100 is very good. There are nice little shades at the campsite to hang out mid-day. Easily accessible. The camp sites are very close to each other.

This campground has wonderful rocks to climb on for children and adults alike. Jumbo Rocks is next to the Skull Rock trail. We stayed in site 78 and the table was not visible from our camper. People also tramped through our site when they got lost on the Skull Rock trail. A large, open site with lots of room for tents. This site might be good for a large family or group. Vault toilets were cleaned daily, but not thoroughly.

After staying at the Cottonwood Campground the first 2 nights, we stayed here on the 3rd night in spot 95. Absolute best spot with our 19 ft sprinter van. Felt like we had the place to ourself. Very nice campground. We would choose this one again.

We stayed one night at site number 38. It's the absolute best east-facing spot. Woke up to an amazing sunrise.
We spent our time walking the Skull Rock trail, which had an entrance from the campground, fun rock figures to climb, and a place to watch the sunset and sunrise.

There are a lot of good sites at this campground but this is one of the best. Site 16 is flat and open with brush around the perimeter and a great rock wall the site backs up to, perfect for our kids (4,7, and 8 years old) to rock scramble on. We had two campsites but decided to consolidate the two tents (a 10 person and 6 person tent) onto this site and there was still enough room to put another tent (not that you're supposed to...)
The only con was that the bathroom was around the bushes and we'd occasionally get a whiff of it, but it was fleeting and didn't deter from the overall experience.

Jumbo Rocks was amazing. I was afraid we’d be too close to other campers, but despite it being a large camp site it never once felt overcrowded. Bathrooms were clean and stocked with toilet paper. Weather was perfect for Spring Break early April. Campsite #27 was great, flat, and spacious. Lots of safe places for my kids to climb explore. And you can even get 1-bar of cell service if you climb up a short path just about 100 ft away.

General
- Download the NPS app prior to visiting the park – trail maps and more!
- Reservations are required year round and can be made the same day or up to 6 months in advance.
- A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out (noon) time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time (noon) on the day following the arrival date.
- The park allows six people, two vehicles and three tents per site, however, some sites are small and may not accommodate the maximum number of people and vehicles. See Site Details for specifics. There is no overflow parking. Trailers count as a vehicle.
- Please call 760-367-5554 for information.
- $30 per vehicle entrance fee is in addition to camping fee.
- There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites; nor is a dump station located nearby. Potable water is available at the Oasis Visitor Center, 11 miles away.
- Generator use is permitted only from 7–9 am, noon–2 pm, and 5–7 pm.
- Pets are not allowed on trails but are welcome in the campground, on any dirt road or within 100 feet of any road. Pets must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long at all times. Pets may not be left unattended or tied to an object; leaving pets in unattended vehicles is strongly discouraged – especially on warm days.
- Don’t Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood near the park and burning it on-site, and do not use park vegetation, living or dead, for fuel.
- All organized events require a special use permit and must be held in designated areas; contact the Special Park Use Coordinator, [email protected].
- Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation. Late Cancellation Fees: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.
- STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood. For more information visit the National Invasive Species Information Center.
- FIRE BAN fire restriction are currently in effect that prohibit charcoal fires, wood-burning fires, and charcoal grills. NO Fires! Only gas or propane stoves are permitted. Starting June 15, ending October 1st of every year.
