Kyen Campground and Oak Grove Day Use Area

Many of the tweekers came at night without paying for a reservation and made noise all night. One lady camped across from us with two dogs. The dogs barked all night and even got away from her at 1:30am. She yelled at them to get back for the longest time. The next morning, my friends 8 year old son was eating his breakfast burrito. The dog ran to him at the table and snatched his food away from the child. Even though the lady apologized for not having her dog leashed and under control, she later asked to purchase something to drink so she could take her medication. All we wanted was peace and quiet. As soon as she saw the park ranger, she left in a hurry without paying. The ranger stated she did recognize the car.

The campground itself was quite open and did not have much privacy for each site. I never met a staff person during my time there.

Mainly, the experience was less pleasant due to the other campers. One family apparently comes every weekend and has yapping dogs that can get free. The young girl didn't speak in a normal voice but was always screetching. Both kids used their scooters and twirling flags on the shared road just by my camp site and kept my dog on alert and upset (usually a pretty calm dog.) I couldn't wait to leave.

Really beautiful campground! A few downsides is that I had to rush to get there with the gates closing (this is partly on me as I do long travel days). And there was no soap.... So make sure to bring some! But very nice campground with a good view of the lake on one side. Also they have recycling as well as trash which I always am happy to see!

On a weekend, this place was overrun with people. Urban folks who come up there to party.

The campground suffered some neglect but has recently been improved a bit. Flush toilets and showers are always welcome. The campers were all cordial and it was a restful and peaceful experience.

Great place for those seeking campgrounds near a body of water. The restrooms were serviced about 2-3 times a day, so they were clean. The showers had warm water, so that’s a big plus. Definitely returning next year!

There were very bad reviews about this camp ground and I was hesitant to visit because of them, but now I’m thinking the bad reviews were deliberate to keep people away. The bad: trash all over the campgrounds (we spent time cleaning up our campground and adjacent ones); No visible presence of rangers; lots of poison oak. The good: very quiet, very secluded, very beautiful. Fantastic access to the lake -water was incredible. Beautiful hiking/biking trails; good access to town for forgotten items; clean bathrooms and showers- incredible water pressure and very hot water (reviews say a lot of homeless use campground, but who can blame them? I would too if I was in that situation). Recommendations: additional trash dumpsters- there is only one dumpster at the entrance, which is a long walk from the upper camp sites; maybe volunteers to clean up/enforce clean up rules at campsites? A camp host? Will definitely return (we went the weekend after schools reopened which may have made it less busy).

Beautiful views of the lake from a nicely shaded campsite that made the hot day very delightful. Facilities were clean and in good working order. we use this as an overnighter when we come to Ukiah for health appointments or shopping. Nice that they honor Senior Lifetime Pass 50% discount!

It was a great location. The water was wonderful and the bathrooms were close with the showers. I won’t be coming back in a few more weeks.
