What Guests Are Saying
Tuolumne Horse Campsites offers a beautiful setting with appreciated amenities like new bear boxes and smoke-free campfire rings. The upgraded spigots have also been a welcome improvement. While the horse camp sites were slightly overgrown, the experience remains enjoyable for both riders and their horses, with great rides like Young Lakes and Elizabeth Lake nearby.

The campground is beautiful and the new bear boxes are greatly appreciated! Also appreciated were the newly designed camp fire rings...no smoke! Having spigots with actual threads on them was a long overdue fix, and a very welcome one. Had a lovely time with horses and friends enjoying the beauty that is Yosemite. Can't wait to go back. While I didn't do the Young Lakes ride this trip, if you have a horse that knows how to handle himself on rocks, Young Lakes is my fave ride up there. For an easy ride to acclimate you and your horse, Elizabeth Lake is gorgeous and not far from camp...usually a first day warm up ride for me. I have over 20 years of enjoying the horse camps in Yosemite...I hope to continue to do so....

Take Highway 41 north from Fresno, Highway 140 east from Merced, Highway 120 east from Manteca or west from Lee Vining (State Route 395) into Yosemite National Park. Tuolumne Meadows Campground and Horse sites are located 5 miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance station (Hwy 120 from the east) and is 55 miles (2 hours) from Yosemite Valley.
Tuolumne Horse Campsites can be accessed via Highway 41, Highway 140, and Highway 120, with Highway 120 leading directly into Yosemite National Park. It is located approximately 5 miles from the Tioga Pass Entrance station on Highway 120.
Policies & Rules
Arrival & departure
- Reservations will be cancelled if you arrive without a horse.
- Contact the park for more information.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Site capacity
- Guests must ensure their site can accommodate their equipment.
Cancellation policy
- Notify the park if you will arrive late to avoid cancellation.
- Reselling or auctioning reservations is prohibited.
Wildlife & food storage
- Store food and toiletries in provided lockers and dispose of garbage properly.
- Store grain in provided lockers and avoid grazing.
Utilities
- Potable water and a dump station for RVs are available nearby.
Safety & rules
- Daily cleaning of campsites is required including proper disposal of manure and fodder.
- Use refillable containers and recycle to support Zero Landfill efforts.
Site types & loops
- Bring your own horse containment method and check placement with staff.

- Do not transport firewood; obtain it locally to protect forests.
