About Wawona Campground

Wawona Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The site is situated at the southern end of the park, 27 miles and approximately 45 minutes from Yosemite Valley, at an elevation of 4000 feet.  Wawona was home to the park's headquarters in 1904 and historic structures still stand today. The majestic Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is just a short drive away. Within Yosemite, visitors gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area and much more. When on reservation, Wawona campsites are available to reserve up to five months in advance on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. PST. For example, on January 15, arrival dates for the period May 15 to June 14 become available to reserve, and therefore, the full arrival date window would be from the campground open date to June 14.   Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. The recreation.gov call center does NOT have access to additional sites or additional information beyond what is published on recreation.gov.  Yosemite National Park Campground Reservation Dates

My family had an excellent time here! We brought our 2 year old and there were a lot of other families. Having the river nearby was great for a quick dip. Having the bathrooms there were really helpful too. It was a 30-min drive into the valley. We will definitely come back!

Corner lot fairly close to the bathrooms. Great shade on a hot day but be sure to bring a canopy during warmer days!

I stayed in #9, #13 and #18. #9 was a nice level back in space next to the river. There really wasn't any view or access to the river due to over growth. #13 and #18 parallel the road on a significant down hill slant with not much room to park between the road and the large rocks. The restrooms are very rustic, have no electrical outlets because they are solar powered. There are no door latches on any of the stalls. I found it very creepy that there were no lights on when dark outside. I am a solo female traveler who appreciates well lit restrooms. All of the restrooms in the campground were dark at night except for two. The three stars are for the rangers who manage the campground. All were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Being a disabled Veteran, it was a surprise that my wife had to pay to reenter the park when she went to pick up supplies for me. My advice is not to send someone for any supplies unless you accompany them. Park Rangers were fantastic. I would go back as the campground was pretty quiet aside from the camper that went up on the hill and started chopping wood for his campfire. Increased patrols would stop that behavior. Do not use card tap at gas stations in nearby town.

Okay campground for just one night. Sites are close to the camp ground road with less privacy compared to other camp grounds. But nevertheless a pretty environment under the trees and near the river.

Beautiful camp but roads are very narrow and hard to avoid collision with other rvs.

We stayed at 84c site. It is large and near the toilet but not too close. You still can hear the river at night and it wasn’t overwhelming. I would come again
