Great spot! Site 6 was very private with a huge open field behind it - stunning! It was much cooler since at elevation (90 degrees in Denver, 70 at camp but sun was shining so warm). Facilities very clean and host was super friendly. Bought firewood from host. Kayaked on Bear Lake and hiked up to the viewpoint (1.5 miles, once at fence post go right for view of Cuchara - incredible). Didnβt see any bears but we brought spray just in case. Weβll be back!

It was wonderful and Steve, the host, was very friendly and helpful. The hiking trails were great and the lake was beautiful. My family and I had a great time and can't wait to go back.

The only problem with this campground was that dogs were constantly running around not on a leach. I was riding on a motorcycle and dogs chased me around the campground.

General
- Due to a high wind storm back in 2022, many trees here were blown down. In the Spring of 2024 the USFS cleared the down trees. Today Bear Lake Campground has less trees than before, but the grass is starting to comeback along with the flowers. Also note that because there are fewer trees in this campground it can be "very windy" at times. Please be prepared for this when you camp here.
- This Campground has a limit of 8 people; either 2 tents and 2 vehicles OR 1 RV in each campsite.
- Caution: bears frequent the area. Be aware; keep a clean camp; Forest Service regulations require food and cooking utensils be stored in secure containers or locked in vehicles.
- First-come, first-served campsites are available.
- No horse sites are available.
