What Guests Are Saying
The Amphitheater Campground receives high praise for its stunning location, friendly and attentive camp hosts, and well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms. Campers appreciate the proximity to hiking trails and the beautiful views, making it an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts. While there are concerns about bear activity and some restroom odors, the positives of the campground, such as its cleanliness and the hosts' helpfulness, far outweigh the negatives.

This is a really nice campground if you are looking for something affordable and close to Ouray. It also has access to good hiking trails. The only drawbacks are the lack of bear boxes (you have to keep all food and cooking utensils in your car), and the composting outhouses that are not always conveniently located, and waft unpleasant odors in unpredictable directions.

The views from the lookout in the campground are amazing. Very cless as n and well run facility. The Hosts were friendly and took time to answer all my questions.

We camp at national forest campgrounds a lot and these restrooms were by far the worst we've seen. There is no reason for well maintained vault toilets to have such a stench. We were almost a block away and still the stench wafted into our site. Inside they were almost unbearable. We've camped at Ouray for 20+ years and the last couple of years the bathroom cleanliness has gone steadily downhill. This year was the worst by far though and affected our experience. Please require better restroom cleanliness, especially in covid19 times, there is no excuse.

This was our 3rd camping trip at Amphitheater Campground (the 1st trip with our kids). We loved our stay, and we cannot wait to return!

Wonderful campground with great views of Ouray. Fills up so get a reservation but don't count on first come first served on a weekend. You can hike directly into the Perimeter trail and also down to town. Really pretty perfect campground!
