Matterhorn

The camp hosts were FANTASTIC!! They were accommodating, and up early, making sure the bathrooms were in great shape for the campers.

The hot showers were a great bonus for camping at Matterhorn.

It is a great jumping off spot for countless beautiful trails in the high country.

The camp host is one of the best ones we have experienced.

Camping at Matterhorn was such a lovely experience. The camp hosts are fantastic and even delivered fire wood to our campsite for $10, and offered advice about where to explore nearby. Bathrooms were well kept and clean, making it easy to rinse off after a long day. The area is scenic and peaceful and I truly never wanted to leave!

Camp grounds are clean and checking in is easy. There are multiple trails to hike and couple lakes within less than 2 mi.

Great campground, hosts were so nice! One thing to bear in mind is that although the bathrooms have toilet paper, for some reason they do not supply soap for hand washing. (This is not an oversight on the part of the hosts, it is intentional on the part of the Forest Service; there is no soap dispenser.) So be sure to bring your own soap even if you do not intend to shower!

Site 16. Stayed under some of the largest Aspen trees I've ever seen. A perfect non-electric site.
It rained 2 of 3 days, we did plan for that. Caught a fish but there's very little shore access to water. Saw a rare salamander/newt near the tent sites. Trails and waterfalls are all around you.
The bathrooms are clean. The shower I used didn't drain well. The entryway potholes were hidden by the rainwater puddles. They are deep holes.

Matterhorn Campground was fantastic and easily ranks among my favorite campgrounds I’ve stayed at in Colorado—and I’ve stayed at quite a few.

The campground itself is extremely beautiful and very well maintained. There is a little road noise from the highway, but it’s not a particularly busy highway and it didn’t bother us much at all. The bathrooms and showers were clean and well kept, and having actual flushing toilets in the shower facilities was an awesome bonus. There are also vault toilets throughout the campground.

The location is hard to beat. It took us only about 15 minutes to drive from our campsite to the Mountain Village parking area for the gondola, so getting into Telluride was incredibly easy.

There are also some great spots to explore nearby. Priest Lake is just a short walk or an even quicker drive up the road. Unfortunately, because of the drought this year, it was more like a pond during our visit. Trout Lake, just a little farther up the road, was the complete opposite—it looked completely full and was absolutely beautiful. Honestly, it was shocking because it’s one of the only lakes I’ve seen in Colorado this year that didn’t appear to be affected by the drought at all.

Finally, Corey, one of the campground hosts, was amazing. She was incredibly friendly, informative, and helpful throughout our stay.

We would absolutely stay here again and would highly recommend Matterhorn Campground to anyone looking for a beautiful, well-maintained campground with easy access to Telluride and the surrounding area.

Great campground close to Telluride. Very nice hosts. Quiet spot even with the highway being near.

Hosts were outstanding, the sites were clean and well maintained. The road around the sites was rough which was great to keep any traffic moving slow and no dust. We will return soon, no doubt.
