Matterhorn

Matterhorn Campground is fantastic! We stayed 5 nights in mid June. Site amenities were great, especially with full hookups! Campground is super quiet after dark.
Camp hosts were very cordial, helpful and chatty! Loved it! Super close to Telluride as well.
Highly recommended and I hope to come back!!!!👍🏼

The campground is beautiful and very well maintained. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful, they kept the bathrooms and showers spotless. Amazing experience at this campground that is surrounded by stunning mountains, lakes and streams.

This is the nicest location! So much to do. I appreciate the showers! No cell service though.

This campground is grossly overrated in the reviews. I guess is your idea of enjoying nature is to seal yourself into a massive Highway Hippo that is spitting distance from other Hippos, then this place may earn the 4.5-star rating it is given. True, it is within 8 mi of the commercial scrum of Telluride, if that is what you seek. However, it is a crowded, noisy campground located adjacent to a state highway and at the bottom of a steep grade. You will experience a symphony of big rig compression brakes the percussion of which you will feel in your chest, loud cars with modified mufflers accelerating up the long grade, and the seemingly ubiquitous groups of, very loud motorcycles. Somehow they manage to make lots of noise even when going downhill.
The hosts of this poor campground could not have been nicer. I felt sorry for them....
The restrooms were kept in perfect condition. There were abundant shared taps for water, though not for RV hookup.
If your idea of camping is enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, you might want to pass on this one.

This was our first visit to this campground and we enjoyed it immensely. We stayed at site 15, a back-in site. There was a bit of a hill backing up the trailer to a level spot. The site was next to a vault toilet, which also serves as the nearest restroom for walk-in tent sites. The view from these sites and our own could not be beat. Bonus points for being right on the galloping goose trail out the door of our trailer, and for the free hot showers available to campers. Would be nice if they had a dish sink, but they do not. Hosts were super awesome. We would come back here. It's not too far from Telluride, so it's easy to get provisions or go out to dinner. There are some electric/water/dump sites available at this campground as well. The nearest RV dump station was in Cayton campground, about 9 mi away over the lizard head pass. It costs money if you don't camp there, and there does not appear to be rinse water. We had very limited cell service in some open areas near the campground.

We stayed at site 025 on 8/13 on our way through Colorado on a cross country roadtrip. The sites were close together and lacked privacy, but we felt safe as two young women. The area is beautiful and I would love to camp here again, although would probably try to find a more private site/one better suited to tent camping. There is no tent pad and we had a difficult time getting our stakes in the ground. The shower facilities are free, warm, large, and clean which was a wonderful surprise and is much more than I could say about most campground showers we used on this trip.
