What Guests Are Saying
Matterhorn Campground offers a beautiful setting with friendly and accommodating hosts, making it a popular choice for campers. The facilities, including clean showers and restrooms, received high praise, contributing to an enjoyable stay. While some sites may lack privacy and there were minor issues with outside visitors, the overall experience is highly recommended for its location near Telluride and access to outdoor activities.

What can I say, showed up for our 5 night reservation only to find they have no water, could not pass safety testing. We could not stay, there was nothing on Rec.gov to warn you about this. We are still waiting for a refund which we were told we would get. Camp host left a lot to be desired. Told us wrong information and when we went back there one host was off duty and the other decided to just take off for a while with her partner leaving a not. BAD MANAGEMENT.

Matterhorn is such a nice and quiet campground that has plenty of space between each site. Perfect location. Camp hosts were fantastic too!

The driveway is full of potholes that were present last year. On site managers states multiple requests to the Forest Service to repair the road have gone unanswered.

The CG's Host - Joslyn - was great to work with. I arrived with a 1 night reservation and she assisted me in identifying a First come-First serve site that I was able to occupy for my entire 7 night stay. The Assistant Hosts were also friendly and helpful. The rest rooms were clean throughout my stay. 1 issue I would note: 1 toilet stall in the men's restroom was O-O-O and I believe has been for a long time. I am not suggesting that is the fault of the hosts, but should get resolved. Matterhorn is a beautiful campground located a couple miles from Lizard Head Pass and ~15 minutes south of Telluride. There are great hiking/biking opportunities available without ever going 'into town'. The CG sits alongside HWY 145, but is easy to ignore. The mountains are stunning in this area of Colorado and the night sky is truly amazing on clear nights. Enjoy!!

There was no prior communication via email reminders that water was not available.

Matterhorn is one of our favorite places to camp. However, with our last visit we found the same giant pot holes in the road that have been there for the last two years. The vault toilet had still not been pumped out and it was full last fall. The water was not yet turned on. I can understand the water situation given how early in the season it is but it would be really helpful if the Forest Service, the contracted campground mangers and Recreation.gov could coordinate and notify campsite reservation holders that fact a head of time. There are really no other options for drinking water in the area other than driving to Telluride or Mountain Village and buying bottled water. Fortunately we know the odds of water being available at USFS campgrounds is only 50/50 so we came prepared. Campers should also know that even if basic amenities like water or vault toilets are temporarily unavailable the campsite fees remain the same.

Such a beautiful camping spot! We absolutely loved the Matterhorn site. We had spot 016. The only thing is we were there for a wedding and were hoping to take advantage of the showers to get ready for it but a pipe burst or something and no running water was available. We managed because we brought water with us so everything worked out fine. Highly recommend camping here!

Remote from Telluride, the night shy is flooded with stars. Campsites shaded by mountains but very close to each other. Roads full of potholes. Hosts were awesome. Just enough internet to send/receive texts or stream audio... forget about sending pics. Beautiful area!

Great camping, horrible camp host.
The Camp Coast was never around during the day, and was not helpful, was downright right rude!

From Telluride, travel approximately 7 miles south on Highway 145. Watch for campground signs; the turn off from the road is on the left.
