Most beautiful scenery and hiking and biking located nearby with great facilities. Other than rain every day, a perfect camping week!

I would give this campground 5 stars (private sites, great hosts, hookups if desired, etc.), but our issue is the road noise. There are big trucks driving past the campground at 5am!

We have been camping at Matterhorn CG in the Gunnison NF near Telluride for 15 years and have always had positive experiences. The hosts over the year have been a mix of personalities and types, most very dedicated and competent. They work for Recreation Resources, a contractor for the USFS. The couple this year are doing a good job. The campground is our favorite, having large and separated sites with a variety of views. The campground also has first come, first serve sites, which is important for travelers to give them the opportunity to be spontaneous. Two issues we have found: 1) there are many no-shows, and the sites go vacant for the night. It seems there must be a better way to deal with this. 2) the Recreation.gov site said bring water, but water is available.
