What Guests Are Saying
Amphitheater Campground is highly praised for its stunning views, cleanliness, and friendly, helpful camp hosts who enhance the overall experience. While the campground features tight roads and small sites, making it less suitable for larger RVs, it is ideal for tents and smaller trailers. Some guests noted the need for bear boxes and improvements to the pit toilets, but many expressed their eagerness to return due to the beautiful setting and access to hiking trails.

Beautiful campground but they need bear boxes. Bears are there regularly and one broke into my truck to get the cooler. I was lucky there was no bad damage. This campground needs bear boxes.

Tight corners navigating around the campground, wouldn’t recommend anything for any site longer than 23 foot trailer.. but all in all, a beautiful campground we have been waiting to get to. Being able to get to the perimeter trail from the campground is everything to this campground. We will be coming back for sure

Steve the camp host is great. But he can't make the road any bigger or the curves less tight. RECREATION.GOV needs to post in BIG PRINT that access to most of the sites in Amphitheater is TIGHT. The views are spectacular in almost all directions, but if your TOTAL vehicle length is greater than 35', pay close attention to where the site is located and how the site is entered and exited. Campsite #6 shows it holds a 24' trailer...and it does. But we only had inches to spare making the turn in the loop at the bottom to get out.

The campground is on the side of a steep hill with very narrow roads, tight turns and generally small sites. If you have a big motorhome or long trailer, this isn’t a good choice for you. It’s great, however, for tents, vans, campers and small trailers.
We and some friends stayed here for five nights in early September while 4-wheeling the passes in our vintage Jeeps. We loved it. Despite a lot of turnover and being full every night, the campground was clean and quiet. Great views. Many nice sites.
The camp hosts are awesome. They work hard and stay busy but do a great job keeping everything shipshape while being friendly and helpful. Hats off to them, they added a lot to our enjoyment while there.
The only complaint from one of our friends was a noisy vent fan in a restroom near his campsite. It was a minor nighttime annoyance.
