One of the best deals in Florida - hands down. At just $2 per person to enter the headsprings plus $4 per paddleboard rental, you'd be hard pressed to find a better day out for the money. The crystal-clear water of Rainbow Springs pumps out at a constant 72 degrees year-round, and paddling through it feels like gliding over glass - visibility goes well beyond 100 ft straight to the sandy bottom.
The wildlife alone makes it worth the trip. We spotted gators, manatees, more turtles and birds than we could even count, and yes - monkeys. The park had a private zoo back in its 1930s tourist attraction days and some of the descendants are still hanging around. You can't make that up.
The facilities are genuinely impressive for a state park - there's a shop, a cafe, and an ice cream store that you'll absolutely be stopping at on your way out. We also brought the dogs on one visit, and they're welcome on the trails (just not in the water, so plan accordingly). The glass bottom boats look really cool too - that's on the list for next time.
Go get out on the water. That's the whole point of this place and it absolutely delivers. Easily one of Florida's best hidden gems.
