Salt Springs Recreation Area

This was one of the most well run and maintained campgrounds in the recreation. gov system we have stayed at in all our numerous trips around the country since 2019.
Loved the cleanliness of showers, frequent checks by grounds attendants. Only minor complaint was noise from gas powered leaf blowers cleaning pads.
We enjoyed the vibrant downtown in Ocala. Restaurants and music on square are great. We drove about 1 hour and 15 minutes to Ormond Beach and enjoyed the quiet beach there. One day we went to Daytona Beach beach but it was quite crowded but an interesting cultural experience with partying and cars and loud music up and down the car area.
I snorkeled in Salt Spring and it was interesting to swim with the mullets. Another swimmer saw a blue crab when she dived into one of the deep holes. The cold water April 25 was refreshing and tolerable with my black rash guard top absorbing the sun. Visited Silver Glenn Springs and were charged half the usual entrance fee by showing our senior interagency card. It is a popular picnic and swimming area for families but not appealing to my husband nor me. We hiked the two trails there and they were fine but unremarkable. Overall the campground is lovely wit good spacing, level pads, quiet with no loud partiers.

I like the cleanliness of the park and the bathrooms. However, in my opinion the employees that oversee the park have the attitude and believe they our gods. They creep around spying on everyone to see if they are doing anything they don’t like. I personally did not have any issues but, as I sat at my campsite I watch how ridiculous they were. If someone had a 1/2” of their tire on the grass or off the concrete pad they made a big deal out of it or if they felt they were going 11 mph they would drive their golf cart in front of their vehicle and stop them and proceed to get on them like they were a child. Also I saw them hiding behind trees and watching people. I witnessed a person pulling up and parked on the road to unload a few things and as soon as they did they swarmed them like they were the swat team and proceeded to yell at them and would not let them finish unloading before making them park at the overflow parking and they had to carry the rest of their items to the site. If anyone tried to challenge them they would threatened to make them leave. It was really sad to see all this going on. They made you feel like you could not relax and enjoy being there. I heard so many people complaining about how stressful they made it to camp. I believe they have been given to much power and think they are to run the place like a prison. I probably will not go back for awhile due to this. I go camping to get away from all the drama and to sit back and witness all this was crazy.

One of the nicest COA campgrounds we have visited, great people;e ate the office, always cleaning up and checking the sites. Power and water were ok, although the sites weren't very level.
Not much in the area, but the springs, but they were great for snorkeling

Nice spread out campground and picnic area with tables/fire grills next to spring.

Price for campsites has gotten way out of bounds. There are far too many employees just hanging out on golf carts doing little. Restrooms were ok, but really in need of "deep" cleaning. Tent campsites are severely lacking in space, definition and privacy.

Nice spacious campsites with full hook up. Reasonably priced. Springs are close to campground. We always enjoy our time at Salt Springs, one of our favorites.

Well maintained park. Sites are fairly large and laid out such that you do not feel like you are looking into your neighbors RV. Services in the area are limited but adequate with fuel, groceries and propane fill nearby.

The sites are kept clean & each site has space between each. The staff is excellent & friendly

Great campground but expensive for a National Forest.
