Please be aware that you will not be allowed to check in until 2 pm. We arrived at 1 with pending thunder storms in the area and were told to come back at 2. This caused us to have to set up in the rain which could have been avoided if they would have let us in earlier as our site was vacant prior to our visit. Also be aware that the springs are closed for swimming at 6:30 so the attendant can clear the day use area and punch out by 7. We have camped here for years and always enjoyed an evening swim after the day use people have gone and it is quite for the campers. Seems like a waste of daylight.
On a better note, the bath houses have gotten an update on the shower/toilet stalls that look really nice, but they removed the bench in the shower stalls, so no were to set stuff, just hangers.
This is a beautiful campground and we will come back. I am hoping that the new management will relax some of the new rules.

Wonderful campground with all services. Well spaced sites, trees for shade, but canopy open enough for Starlink. Easy access to the springs.

We had a great time! This was our second visit, and we’d definitely come back. If you’re camping, I highly recommend bringing bikes so you can ride to the spring from the campground. Don’t forget bug spray, card games, and water shoes! I forgot my water shoes this time and ended up hurting my toe on the rocky bottom. There are quite a few rocky areas, but the spring is absolutely beautiful and well worth the trip. Highly recommend! 🍃💦🚲

A concession operated CG. Well kept grounds, helpful employees, gated. All hookup services worked great. Adjacent sites can be ample or somewhat close together. Lawns needed mowing. Living area is just a picnic table and a lantern post nearby, nothing special there. Saw one guy trying to handle it all. Lots of wildlife, including owls, vultures, and bobcats. Very good AT&T coverage. Shuffleboard and basketball courts. Little to do in immediate area, a drive out to anywhere in all directions. Main attraction is the springs. Great place if you want to be away from large coastal/Orlando population centers.

Getting There
Salt Springs is located 35 mi east of Ocala (I-75), 60 mi west of Daytona Beach (I-95) and 95 mi north of Orlando, Florida.

Salt Springs is located 35 mi east of Ocala (I-75), 60 mi west of Daytona Beach (I-95) and 95 mi north of Orlando, Florida.
From I-75 to Ocala: Drive east on State Route 40 for about 12 mi, then turn north on County Road 314 and proceed for 18 mi. Turn north on State Highway 19 and drive for about 0.5 mi to the recreation area entrance on the right.
From I-95 east of Ormond Beach: Take SR 40 west about 40 mi to Highway 19. Turn north on Highway 19 and go about 16 mi to Salt Springs. Continue 0.5 mi to the recreation entrance on the right.
Highway access
Salt Springs Recreation Area is accessible from I-75 via State Route 40, which is approximately 12 miles to the east. I-95 can also be accessed via State Route 40, which connects to Highway 19.
Policies & Rules
General
- Two vehicles are included in the site fee. However, only 1 vehicle is allowed to park on the site spur unless it completely fits on the asphalt/parking pad. The other vehicle must park in overflow parking. Boats are considered a vehicle and will count towards one of your vehicles if you bring one. An extra vehicle charge will be applied towards boats and vheicles over the allowed 2.
- Vehicles, trailers, campers, motorcycles, etc. must be parked on paved surfaces. Do not park on the grass.
- Generators are not allowed to run during quiet hours.
- Stays are only allowed for 14 days in any 30 day period.
- Be sure to reserve a site that will accommodate your equipment. The site you reserve is your site. You may not move to another site.
- Pets are not allowed into the Day Use area Forest Order #08-05-05-02-13-0207; 36 CFR261.58(s)
- Personal golf carts are not allowed in the Ocala National Forest; if you bring one, it must remain on its trailer
- Maximum 2 vehicles allowed per site; a fee will be charged for extra vehicles
- There is no cell phone coverage or internet service at Salt Springs
- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
- Discount passes must be entered at the time of booking for single sites only, all request for refunds will need to be requested online, no onsite refunds will be given.
