Please be aware that you will not be allowed to check in until 2 pm. We arrived at 1 with pending thunder storms in the area and were told to come back at 2. This caused us to have to set up in the rain which could have been avoided if they would have let us in earlier as our site was vacant prior to our visit. Also be aware that the springs are closed for swimming at 6:30 so the attendant can clear the day use area and punch out by 7. We have camped here for years and always enjoyed an evening swim after the day use people have gone and it is quite for the campers. Seems like a waste of daylight.
On a better note, the bath houses have gotten an update on the shower/toilet stalls that look really nice, but they removed the bench in the shower stalls, so no were to set stuff, just hangers.
This is a beautiful campground and we will come back. I am hoping that the new management will relax some of the new rules.

We stayed here in the summer & a lot of sites have ample shade. The restrooms/showers were very clean & they even have a station in between the mens/women's restrooms for doing dishes with a large sink & counter. Which was a nice added touch. There springs were beautiful & nice trails etc. Be prepared that if your camping you can't just drive up to the spring area, you must walk with your items from the camping area. We had a disabled senior with us & I had to go in the office to get permission to drive around the barricade sign so that they could also enjoy the spring. Also they are completely paperless so you can't get a physical map of the park to see where to explore or to use for reference for campsites you'd like i for future trips. The staff was friendly in our experience.

Staff was pleasant, the grounds were well kept, and we had a great time. It would be nice if the campers had access and were allowed to use the springs later in the day after the day use people had left.

Upon arrival we were notified the swimming area was closed due to an active Gator. We were very disappointed since the main reason we came was to swim. They did give us a pass to a nearby spring but not the same since it was a drive.

Salt Springs is located 35 miles east of Ocala (I-75), 60 miles west of Daytona Beach (I-95) and 95 miles north of Orlando, Florida.
From I-75 to Ocala: Drive east on State Route 40 for about 12 miles, then turn north on County Road 314 and proceed for 18 miles. Turn north on State Highway 19 and drive for about 0.5 mile to the recreation area entrance on the right.
From I-95 east of Ormond Beach: Take SR 40 west about 40 miles to Highway 19. Turn north on Highway 19 and go about 16 miles to Salt Springs. Continue 0.5 miles to the recreation entrance on the right.
Salt Springs Recreation Area is accessible from I-75 via State Route 40, which is approximately 12 miles to the east. I-95 can also be accessed via State Route 40, which connects to Highway 19.

Policies & Rules
General
- Two vehicles are included in the site fee. However, only 1 vehicle is allowed to park on the site spur unless it completely fits on the asphalt/parking pad. The other vehicle must park in overflow parking. Boats are considered a vehicle and will count towards one of your vehicles if you bring one. An extra vehicle charge will be applied towards boats and vheicles over the allowed 2.
- Vehicles, trailers, campers, motorcycles, etc. must be parked on paved surfaces. Do not park on the grass.
- Generators are not allowed to run during quiet hours.
- Stays are only allowed for 14 days in any 30 day period.
- Be sure to reserve a site that will accommodate your equipment. The site you reserve is your site. You may not move to another site.
- Pets are not allowed into the Day Use area Forest Order #08-05-05-02-13-0207; 36 CFR261.58(s)
- Personal golf carts are not allowed in the Ocala National Forest; if you bring one, it must remain on its trailer
- Maximum 2 vehicles allowed per site; a fee will be charged for extra vehicles
- There is no cell phone coverage or internet service at Salt Springs
- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
