Fort Pickens Campground

This is my fifth time at Fort Pickens. The second time in campground A
I believe I’m going to book campground A again next year rather than C. Being in a tent, having shaded means a lot and I think this campground does have more trees

Great place to stay. The gulf beach had large amount of weeds but that comes and goes.

The tent camp site needed some kind of shade. There were sand fleas everywhere on our site and we saw large rats go into someone else’s tent. Parking spaces were not large enough for a truck and they were in a horrible position to try to get turned around when the people around us were parked in the way and on the side of the road. The bathroom was awful couldn’t use it. It was so hot it took your breath away.

D27 was just right. Not a lot of shade cause I hate lizards. Bright n open.

The whole experience started when I was denied showing my DD 214 as proof of my military service. I had the actual document on me, in the same name as my photo ID. I was denied because I didn’t have the veteran sticker on my drivers license. $35.
As a result of some other issues in the camp ground , it was just not the pleasant experience that I was hoping for. Mostly bc of my disappointment with humanity.
That veteran denial though.

This is a very nice park but it could be much nicer if needed tree trimming was performed.
There is no reason to let trees grow over the paved portion of the camp sites or roadways unless the limbs high enough from the ground to permit all RV's that would fit on the site to use all of it.

We have an average size Travel Trailer at 31ft and could only use about 2/3rds of the paved portion due to low limbs.
If funding is an issue, then raise the prices on the sites a few dollars.

This campsite doesn’t have sewage hookup . I overlooked that somehow and was very disappointed that there was no sewage hookup when we got there . There is also no camp store or ice machines and the drive back to the closest store is a gas station about 15 minutes away . There was also no playgrounds that we found for the kids . The beaches were beautiful …. I just like having more amenities. But if you want a more primitive campsite …. This will be a good choice for you .

The sites are very small. Even if you have a small to moderate sized rig, getting a truck in your space is very difficult. You may have to park far away and walk to your camper since there is no allowed parking on the grass. The location to the beach Is amazing. The showers were easy to access from one side, not so much the other since they are surrounded by sand.

The best there is. Great helpful host. Glad they loosened again the length limits and welcome again larger rigs that like in the past perfectly fit on the larger pads. Thumbs up to Fort Pickens!

Great park, cool forts, and no issues with power or water. Our campsite smelled like dead/rotting fish everywhere cause the people who stayed before us must've thrown the guts and carcasses everywhere. Not the NPS's fault, just other inconsiderate guests. Beautiful beaches!
